Or for sure, IMO once a price is agreed upon its a deal. I have never been in a situation where it took that long tho. I imagine he was like, "Its getting nice again." "I think I'll drive the Z."

alright, im pissed off right now more than i ever am. since last winter the owner gave me his word that he would save the car for me when he came back from florida. last week he sent me a copy of the title and pictures for my banker to see so we had everything set up and i was going to drive down there to pick up the car. i had this car picked out and ready to go since last fall. and now he calls me yesterday and tells me that he is deciding to KEEP the car. that pissed me off to the extreme. so now i just gotta look for another vehicle. planning on getting a rocket now.

I'm pretty sure that this is a breach of contract. We're working on contact law in my law class and I'll ask my teacher for you tomorrow. The law states that if there is reasonable performance on both sides (sending copy of title, travel plans, etc) then the contract has been made.

Haha, good luck with that one. A verbal contract won't mean shit anywhere. Unless they had a written contract stating everything. He could say that he just sent a copy of the title so the kid could look into getting a loan or whatever.

I don't consider a deal done until cash, or product have exchanged hands. Although i do consider it bad business to change a deal, but with too many flakers and shit i wouldn't hold onto a product just cuz someone said they would buy it for some price.

You have a good point there, did any money change hands? We don't know, but I guess I assumed some had otherwise I wouldn't hold anything for anyone either. If a deposit was paid then a contract was entered. Might not be worth fighting for, unless its a TT, but its definatly not cool to change up a deal like that. Again assuming some "hold" money was exchanged.

Ive owned many sleds, and a rocket, HD Fatboy, and a couple smaller bikes. I have never paid more than 3500 for a bike (the fatboy was 3500, wrecked. I fixed it and sold it for 10,500 2 months after purchase.)

I have nothing against bikes, when they are used and cheap. Look at it this way, you buy a second home that you live in say, 6 months a year. It has no roof, no heat or A/C, and you are guaranteed that its value will drop to 50% of your purchase price the day after you bought it. You wind up making payments on it for 4 years, and dont use it very much because its either raining or too damn hot half the time, and sell it for 25% of the purchase price 5 years later. Was it a terrible investment?? Fuck yes it was

And that, is my problem with rockets, and somewhat bikes in general. Unless you are gonna go all out and get a Boss Hoss, V-max, or a Busa or something, there is just really no appeal to me. On a side note, i would really like to pick up a V-max in 3-4 years, and pay about $3k for it, cash of course.

I just bought my bike last year and I'm already thinking it's a waste of money. 6 months of riding in a year is a big strech. I'd say maybe 4 or 5 comfortable months. Otherwise it sits there depreciating while I'm still making payments every month. I'm thinking of getting out of this one and going with an early 90's sportbike. It's not that I don't like the bike, in fact I like it more than I thought I would.. I don't know what people are thinking trading the ninja 500 in for a rocket, it's basically perfect for around town. Wide powerband, great torque, doesn't make alot of noise unless you want it to, damn quick with the jet kit and front sprocket I have on it (you'd be surprised). It's just basically I'm paying every month for what amounts to a part time toy.

for sure, i would totally rock a 93 or so FZR 1000 or 750, or a CBR F2, but i wouldnt pay more than $1500 for it.
OH, and in wahp/breck anyway, its funny cause you will see these guys driving around in cars you can see through all winter, and broke as fuck leeching off people. But soon as it gets nice out, there they are riding their $20k bikes like they are some complete badass. Im sure it goes that way in most places. yeah. i like everyones opinion on the bike conversation. i have 200sx right now but is not exactly legal since i got in an accident a few weeks ago so there are no headlights, right corner lense, and bumper/grille.

So im looking for something that would be inexpensive that i could drive day and night besides the Honda. i aggree with you gary that an expensive bike, making payments and only dirving it 6, maybe 7 months out of the year would be dumb.

so im looking around for a bike under 5K, cuz back to the Z i never planned on driving that in the winter or rain. so buying a bike thats cheaper doesnt sound that unintelligent to me.

to answer capitalj's question, i never exchanged money. how it went was he sent me AND my banker photographs and a copy of the title to show that the owner actually is the owner and get the loan on the way. i am just disappointed about the fact that he would do all of that and then call me the next day after we had this all settled since last fall that i was to purchase it and tell me that he wants to keep it. he told me the reason was because he didnt want me to drive all the way down there and be disapointed in case it wasnt what i thought it would be.

imo think the truth is either he decided he loved it too much or he got a better offer. idk but i shouldnt keep whining about this car. just that i love nissans with a passion and i think the old Z32's are way better than the Z33's....

go less than that, i mean, I got into mine for 5k (bike plus gap) and 100 a month, it doesn't sound like much until you figure the amount of time you'll be paying on it versus actually riding it. I could have got into it for less but the gap insurance really seemed like a good idea. God forbid I ever really wreck, but I don't want to be stuck with paying on it still if I do. Also, if it's your first bike, don't get anything near new. I feel so bad every time I scratch, rub, or otherwise molest the bike knowing the resale value is fucked worse every time I do it, and it happens more often than you'd think. You'll lay it down when you forget to make sure it's in neutral, or if your kickstand isn't out all the way, or when you are practicing slow turns and figure 8's, or if theres gravel, or etc. etc. etc. maybe I'm just accident prone but the damn things should come painted with bedliner.

Even if im a retard, at least im not a retard that is making a payment on a POS bike you can only use a couple months a year. Snowmobiles are the same way.

Wow, you mean to tell me that having a motorcycle that you can only ride "a couple months a year" is dumb, but having a 6l turbo Buick that you can only drive the same months isn't? What's the difference here? You know as well as I do that most of the cars at the strip aren't driven November through March, just like a bike. Come on, a snowmobile? A bike can be ridden six months EVERY year. I guarantee there's never been a season where snowmobilers were riding six months a year here.

A bike will hold its value like a car. My last bike was an '03 R6, which retailed new for $8k. I sold it when it was 5 years old for $5k (which is about average for that bike). That's 62.5% of its retail price. You aren't seeing 5 year old bikes hold 25% of their initial value unless they are totalled. If you are, let me know and I'll buy every one of them

it is true that i offered an extreme example, but it still holds somewhat true.
BTW, my car has been increasing in value since the day i bought it. In fact it has almost doubled in the last 5 years, and with the money i put into it, it holds or gains as well. Hence, it is a good investment. And i drove it over the winter when i first bought it, but i can afford not to so i dont anymore.

People need to dump bikes in the fall and winter and everyone wants one when it's spring so it's easy to get good deals and make money on a bike. Unfortunately for this kid, now's not the time to do it though.
