9k is standard from a swap shop for an 04-05 running complete Sti driveline. including wiring, ecu, brakes, axels etc. an interior is another 2k. 10k for a roll over is a bit much, but not outrageous. I talked to him about it at the YMCA. If he wants the most out of it, he should part it out over the winter. I would be happy to store it and sell the pieces for a fee if he'd like.I don't know what his plans are with the car now. He has been talking about swapping it himself, but he would have to have a lot of help or just hire someone to do it cuz he doesn't have the space or tools to do it.

I would be happy to store it and sell the pieces for a fee if he'd like. There may be people that will pay $9k for a STi swap from a shop that has all of the items removed from the vehicle already, and comes with a 30 day warranty...Both of which do not apply here. IMO it would be ABSOLUTELY ridiculous for anyone to pay that kind of money for an STi swap, nonetheless the 04-05 platform. A swapped GC with a 04-05 STi full drivetrain can be had for $12k. For that price you get a running car (usually with some sort of goodies), and have no worries. If you part it out completely, you may be able to hit a $10k mark, but you'd have to find people willing to pay big money to ship stuff that is more than likely available for less (with shipping) locally. A quick search finds an 04' STi for $14,700 unrolled/undamaged: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Impreza-STI-TURBO-2004-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-STI-AWD-TURBO-6spd-Xenon-92K-TX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a3Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1308QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem330280335839QQitemZ330280335839
Cliffs: You won't get $9k + $2k out of the rolled STi

If he would like to talk pricing, have him stop by the shop and I can explain his options to him. It is a very easy swap, simply time consuming.

I've heard rumors going around that the motor in it is "rebuilt" and I can tell you that it is NOT rebuilt. The motor was brand new from Subaru about 10k miles ago. The clutch was also replaced at that time. If you don't believe me ask Elroy at Subaru he's the one that installed it. As far as the price goes, he said to drop it down to $8,500.

We would be more than happy to do that for him. If he would like to talk pricing, have him stop by the shop and I can explain his options to him. It is a very easy swap, simply time consuming.

TintmastersOuch jason, angry at me for something? I would point out that I did say swap shop, meaning warantied etc. and that I also said to make the monies you'd need a full part out. I don't think my estimate was that high for a full part out. A part out will almost always net more than a full car sale (especially with subarus), and since the motor is >10k I'd put my money on 10K easy. I should also point out that it would take a lot of work, and shipping isn't that bad if you have corporate accounts to use.
I would also tell you I first pushed the idea of swapping it into a GC and told him that tintmasters could handle it for him.

The joys of internet and lack of 'tone'. No I have no beef at all Colin haha. Nor does this advice have anything directly relating to tintmasters....rather advice and different standpoint. I have watched a lot of kids get burned on Subaru stuff, and am simply trying to offer help (you were offering helpful info, I just wanted to make sure he understood where he stood in the mix, being I get the vibe that he hasn't played on NASIOC, RS25, etc much). I'll keep this easy simple and hopefully not step on anyones toes/hurt feelings:
If in the long run you are looking for:
a) Passion/Fun car/value - Swap into a GC Chassis
b) The best financial return - Part out down to the heater controls/clutch pedal. This option will take A LONG time and can be a pain in the butt. From dealing with 'taking a picture' of the window switch you are selling for $5, to wheeling and dealing over a $10 shipped part. Parting out a car sucks.
c) Quickest/easiest option - Sell car as a whole, but don't look for the same return as option 'b' in the slightest.
There are helpful assets to you in the community to help you sell the STi and each has their own benefits. Colin is helpful, as are many others.

I just bought an '04 WRX that I would love to swap it into, but I wouldn't have the money to do that unless someone bought my engine/tranny first lol. Then again I don't really have any time to do the swap anyways with school.

it would be absolutely pointless to swap the motor/trans into a 04 wrx. you could buy a 04 sti for alot less.

I am not going to swap the engine into my wrx i simply don't have time to do so. If i had the time I would've bought it trust me. I just said that I would like to put it in my car.

Ok, so I talked to Henry today and I am going to part out the car for him. There's no rush to get rid of it so it seemed like a good idea to part it out. If you want anything from it let me know. Once again... its an '05 STi, and many of the parts are still good! I plan to look up prices on everything soon and list the parts for sale with prices, but for now just shoot me a pm with an offer.
