              Yesterday I started on the LS/VTEC motor build for next season. I had a very clean rebuilt LS sitting around for a while, so time to get to work.

              Took off the oil pan;

              Then the oil pickup and windage tray;

              Look how clean this motor is!

              Pistons out (New LS pistons for sale BTW)

              It has a fresh hone, and been hot tanked so that will save time and money.

              Next I want to get a new crank, I'm thinking GSR, ITR, or CTR instead of the LS crank. They are zero balanced to higher RPM's then LS cranks. also a ITR oil pump, the move more oil then LS pumps. I have not decided on what piston rod combo to go with yet either. I have a oil cooler for it too.

              The Ground Controls are set up and ready to go. My Koni yellows should be here any day now.

              Thats all for today!

                all new b series pumps are the same.

                also ls crank will be just fine for anything you will do bryce.

                  Is the key word "new" oil pump? In the past when I read about lsvtec builds they always would run ITR oil pumps because they pumped more oil.

                  That is true on the crank, it will be boosted so I doubt I will rev past 8,ooo rpm.

                    What does being boosted have to do with only revving to 8k?? Boost means you can actually make power up there, might as well go to 8.7-9k depending on the head...

                      bryce i think any pump newer then like 96 is the same as the itr pumps. the itr pump is just the revised version of the b series pump.

                      but if your doubting yours pull it apart and check for wear if there is none you should be fine to run that one.

                      Oh and trevor i think his power band will drop before 8500 so if it drops at say 8k there is no point to rev higher other then a gearing issue.

                      but i'm preaching to the wrong person... haha

                        Good to know, thanks Matt.

                        What I have read is that Honda balances their crank shafts 1,ooo rpm past that motors rev line. That is why people put AP1 cranks that are balanced to 10,ooo in their K series. The rev limiter is 7k on a LS so I figured anything past 8k would be unsafe with that crank. It will be a stock B16 head, and IM.

                        If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but thats where I got my reasoning.

                            Yea, it will obviously depend on the turbo/cams/IM/etc, but assuming he stays stock B16 head and not too big of a turbo, it will drop off early enough.
