small powersports industry has all but been shut down

Kiss lead pencils goodbye. I know there made out of carbon but the term "Lead Pencil" implies there MIGHT be lead in them, and that alone is good enough for the goverment.
I suppose the price on said bikes is going to sky rocket for people who want to buy or sell them privately.

Ya i was looking into this online and viewing some things. Well some manufactures like Suzuki are trying to make brakes and engine parts without lead and shit like that but supposedly that will double the price of the bike to get everything down to the specs that the congress want. And if it doesn't go threw Glen Hansen, Communications Director for American Suzuki was saying in magazines that this will probably be a big impact on there business and probably run a lot of smaller business or off brand business out of business. Which i think is true because it is going to ruin the motocross sport and its going to hurt people that figure ok i will just get my 10 year old kid a 2 stroke 125

because its illegal now to buy mini or pit bikes... if you look on yamaha.com motors they have already pulled of the ttr 50 and the pw90 and so are other websites. i have went to other websites and i can't even get parts or even sticker kits for my 85 as of the 10th. Its all been pulled.
-
its any bike marketed for under 12.... its not just a cc limit... other wise they wouldnt pull the 110's
"In the act, children is defined as anyone 12 or under, and the law is very broad in that it exempts no products from its purview."
Also the cc limit refers to 2 strokes... which equals aprox 150cc 4 stroke...

Ya harwood is right they can't promote to younger kids under the age of 13....i called Umotors today because i was going to be pissed if i couldn't buy parts for my yz 85. and they said they can still sell the parts they just can't sell the bike itself is what they told me so i guess am not to worried lol as i already have the bike. But it is still a shitty deal for people who want to get there kids into motosports at a young age.
-
Also it depends on the parts... I cant get any electrical parts for my 110. it all depends on if its in the motor or outside the bike. Motor parts are excluded from this, its all the electrical on the outside that contain lead that you can not buy anymore...

Just came across this thread but figured I would let you guys know that many people are currently taking action against this. This law is aimed at 12year olds and under which was stated before. But I'm not sure why some of you aren't able to find parts for your 110cc bikes becuase it is only suppose to affect the parts and bikes of 85cc's and younger.
It's amazing how many calls we get a day. All the motorcycle manufacturers are currently going through lead testing to see what products are able to be sold or not.

I was just in Indianapolis for the dealer expo and people were around with petitions like crazy. So it won't last long. If the law doesn't allow these manufactures to make these products they will come out with lead free products. So don't worry to much, just a shitty situation at the current moment.
