Helmets

Just curious where I can get a helmet for drag racing. I know that the tracks look inside to check specs. What specs are they looking for and how much can I expect to spend?

Wouldn't just a normal motorcycle helmet work?

If so id check out Umotors for one locally, or just get one online?

^ thats what I am asking. can the helmet be just a motorcycle helmet? I just want to make sure it will work for not only interstate dragways but BIR as well.

NHRA wants to see a current DOT and SNELL rating.

Avoid the SUOMY brand.

then no, do not get a motorcycle helmet.
I believe you can go back 2 steps on the Snell rating (I think Snell 2000 is the current limit).

snell 2000 is good until 2014

snell 2005 is good until 2017

snell 2007 is good until 2019

I bought a motorcycle helmet. Just look at the stuff posted in this thread.

When you go to BIR the drag strip tech should be the exact same as IDR. When I went for the HPDE they did not even tech cars or look at helmets.

I just bought a helmet yesterday at Fleet Farm. I am going to have it painted the same color as my car (daytona Blue) then get some custom paint done. I was playing around with some ideas last night. let me know what you guys like better.

A retired body shop guy. I think I am his first import. He has done quite a few muscle show cars.
