I wasn't sticking up for CMK, he doesn't even live here. The 1000 military personnel made up maybe 2% of the people working, and 90% of the military I saw was just directing traffic so don't act like the people that live here, like Joel's family, can't handle their own. The people that live here threw bags all week for families like Joel's while your fat ass sat in a humvee or chit chatted at the end of the street. I'm not asking you to serve anyone, we would get by without you just fine.
My home isn't close to the river or affected by any flooding, unless the dikes breach at 43 feet. There isn't a bag laid even close to me.
I actually worked at sandbag centeral most days. and the fact is if the guard wasnt here, fargo would have flooded already. Apperently you didnt see all the sandbagging done by them or the hesco barriers put up by them. Most ppl were in fact not directing traffic. You are wrong. Thats what a lot of them are doing now. If we werent at sandbag central at night we wouldnt have gotten the sandbag levels that they are now. And talk about ppl sitting around, you should see the city employees and contractors, lazy fucks.
And you say joels family could handle their own, but yet they had to ask for volunteers and help.

Right.....
No, The Minnesota Fire Departments and college have been here throwing bags in my neighborhood. The military guys just sit in the humvee and don't do shit. Im not mad at anyone. I didnt need any sandbags I couldnt have carried myself. Im glad those idiots stayed in their humvees anyways. They walked over to our dike while we were putting bracing in, and go "You should put bracing in there." Then the proceeded to call all of their guys to come gawk at our dike. -

We relied on family and friends. Not National guardsmen. I didn't call you to sandbags so don't act like I owe you anything. It would actually benefit me if you stopped now. Let the dike Break in fargo and my house will be safe. kthxbye. Also, No one asked you to sign up for the guard, it was a personal choice, so shut the fuck up and do your job since we overpay you to do it anyways. -

Come on now. Fargo's elevation is approx. 900' depending where you measure at. There is about 8/10's foot of drop per river mile to the north. Lake Winnipeg is at an elevation of 712' Are you saying the water is flowing slow because we are almost 200' higher than Lake Winnipeg that has ice over it?? That lake has a surface area of over 9,000 sq. miles. Even if we were only 20' higher than the lake it would still be like pissing in the ocean.I never said "You're all wrong". I am just trying to clarify some of the stuff that is completely wrong. Sorry if you didn't like it but please don't post things when you have absolutely no clue about it.
Picts coming soon. Vids. have no audio, I don't know how to convert for sound with camera.
I'll have to agree with Bill here, but I will add a tiny little bit of my own thoughts to it. Yes, frozen river/lakes upstream (way upstream...not ice jams and such relatively close by) add a slight impedance to the overall flow of the river, but shouldn't be enough to cause any significant flooding/slowing of the water.
The Sheyenne and Wild Rice have also crested at this point (I'm pretty sure wild rice has anyway) so they shouldn't be contributing to a spike in the rise of the river at this time either....although the Sheyenne has some pretty significant moisture still waiting to be dumped into it in some of the more western counties it runs through....but that is still several days away if it starts melting now.
The only horrible scenario I can think of is if the weather gets warm and a major rainstorm hit the area dumping more water into the river in a short period of time.....or a hurricane coming up the Mississippi and hitting Fargo (I kid, I kid....)

then you go do the same things and let me know what your pay should be. kthxbye. fag
EDIT: I also didnt ask your parents to buy a house next to the river. If you didnt want the military here then you go tell the govenor or maybe the media that, see what kind of response you can get. The only way they could get me to save your house or parents is to pay me.

No one is saying they don't want help, no matter where it comes from. You're acting like military help is somehow more valuable than civilian help and it's not.Rexwagon;268536 wrote:

...aaaaaaaand my point is proven. -
Even though I think Darrick is over-reacting, the Guard's purpose is to assist/protect the state and is under the direction of the Governor. From what I can tell the roads were pretty fucking packed as it was. Someone needed to be out directing traffic (or filling bags or whatever...everyone had a role) to keep things moving as smoothly as they did. Any chain is only as strong as it's weakest link and I'd say that nearly EVERY link in this chain was pretty fucking strong when they were all pulling together. Now it seems like everyone wants to take full credit and talk shit. This is NOT what needs to happen now. We are NOT out of the woods yet. Either side may need the help of it's neighbors on the other side of the river to get through this thing yet.
Rex- Good job doing what you were directed to do. You had a job with clear orders and it sounds like you did it. Thank you.
Joel- Awesome job on your dike, I'd let you and your family design/build a dike for me any day.
Fargo/Moorhead- TOGETHER you guys kicked this things ass so far. Now we need to work together to keep this bitch under control.

Equipment and the ability to work us as long as they want and we cant just get up and leave because were tired.
EDIT: i am done arguing with you hando. the arguement is now pointless.

Put More Cash in Your PocketThe Army National Guard offers more than just your monthly paycheck. Our wide array of bonuses and incentives can put extra money in your wallet—thousands of dollars, in fact.
Below are a few examples. Eligibility requirements apply. Ask your local recruiter for details about these and other Guard bonuses.
Up to a $30K bonus – Enlisting under Active First-
Up to a $20K bonus – for choosing certain MOSs (jobs) or entering designated units
-
Up to a $15K bonus – for those coming from another military branch and choosing a designated unit
-
Up to a $15K bonus – for prior service members who choose certain MOSs
-
Up to a $2K bonus – under G-RAP, for helping recruit a new Soldier
The National Guard is a lucrative job in many ways.
Looks to me like there are still plenty of sign on bonuses out there.

I am not trying to take full credit for anyone. just was trying to show a different side that these ppl didnt see i guess. if we didnt have the outstanding volunteer numbers and ppl then shit might be different right now. Everyone pulled together. and thats what counts. PPL did a great job over here in fargo. I wasnt in MN so I dont know about that side.

its not accurate. we lost the 20k, its now down to 10k. they probably dont want to change the website because they are trying to get the bonus;s back up. and its also MOS specific.
so how is that paying too much? how do you put a price on ones life?
-
always has been MOS specific...hasn't it?
Link to where the benefits have been decreased please? I'm seeing re-enlistment bonuses cut, but not enlistment bonuses.....maybe I'm wrong, it's happened before.

MOS specific has been for the most part. I fall in a critical skill since no one wants to do my job. So i get the max bonus's
I cant find a link, but the bonus for re-enlisting has went down from 15k for 6 more years to 5k as of march 1st. The new soldier enlistment bonus of 20k might still be good through may 31st. But you must enlist prior to it or you dont get it.
I am trying to find a link
