          how is he the man?

he waited til the last minute to do anything about the flood. Theyve known of a possible flood since the winter started. And basically we are lucky that the original prediction didnt come true. walaker is not the man

yeah, because he predicted the 10-12" of snow and very quick warmup with 2" of rain in a span of, what, 2 weeks at the start of winter.

We very likely could have been fine had we not gotten entirely shit on late in the season.

I don't give two shits what you think of Walaker personally - the fact is that nobody could've predicted the region getting its ass handed to it but you're still trying to use it to take shots at Walaker.

if any of you were smart enough to watch the water levels in wahp you would know that it wasnt gonna do shit 4 days ahead of time. we are expected to go just 1ft above flood stage, which amounts to nothing. Thats 3ft lower than the first crest. And just to add that at 15ft the area isnt holding that much water, it doesnt really spill out until 16ft

Tell me Darrick, at what point were they supposed to start earlier? You can't really bag on top of snow IIRC, so they would have either needed to move all the snow or wait...since the river flooded way earlier than normal there wasn't a whole lot Walacker could do as no one knew exactly what/when it was going to happen.

They pretty much knew that some sort of flood was coming, but until they could see the way it was running off and the extent that it was flooding in Wahpeton, etc... they couldn't predict how high to bag.

IMO, Walacker did EXACTLY what he needed to to save Fargo.

I am just saying maybe he could have been more organized for the flood to come. Everything was kinda thrown together at the last moment. yeah it came early but if he would have started organizing shit earlier than it may have went faster and easier. I dont think he was some hero.

Then Fema, the corp of engineers, state and federal government tells him to evac the city if the river is gonna crest that high and he tells them no. Well he got lucky.

So walaker saved fargo now. lmao. He was just lucky that the river didnt crest at 42 or 43 ft, because it would be a different story right now.

Due to the predicted second crest, the City of Fargo will resume sandbagging efforts tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. Sandbagging will take place outside at the Fargodome parking lot, so volunteers are asked to dress appropriately. Volunteers may show up at the Fargodome at anytime to help. The City will need to fill about one-million sandbags in order to build up the current dike system. Posted 04.07.2009 at 2:34 PM

I don't think it was really based on what the red was doing in wahp. It was based on them predicting warmer weather than we actually received, and rain, not snow to hit us.

but, if 1/3 of the water and 1/3 of the river basin goes through wahp, dont you think that would have a tremendous effect on water levels? If it dont flood in wahp its a damn good chance it wont in fargo

yes, the sheyenne is a big one, but we have 3 fairly large rivers here that are the basis for the river. The entire Otter Tail basin area, Traverse lake basin are huge bodies of water for this area.
