Grand Forks Part II

Due to the predicted second crest, the City of Fargo will resume sandbagging efforts tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. Sandbagging will take place outside at the Fargodome parking lot, so volunteers are asked to dress appropriately. Volunteers may show up at the Fargodome at anytime to help. The City will need to fill about one-million sandbags in order to build up the current dike system. Posted 04.07.2009 at 2:34 PM

if any of you were smart enough to watch the water levels in wahp you would know that it wasnt gonna do shit 4 days ahead of time. we are expected to go just 1ft above flood stage, which amounts to nothing. Thats 3ft lower than the first crest. And just to add that at 15ft the area isnt holding that much water, it doesnt really spill out until 16ftI don't think it was really based on what the red was doing in wahp. It was based on them predicting warmer weather than we actually received, and rain, not snow to hit us.

but, if 1/3 of the water and 1/3 of the river basin goes through wahp, dont you think that would have a tremendous effect on water levels? If it dont flood in wahp its a damn good chance it wont in fargoaren't there a bunch of tributaries feeding the red in the near Fargo area??

yes, the sheyenne is a big one, but we have 3 fairly large rivers here that are the basis for the river. The entire Otter Tail basin area, Traverse lake basin are huge bodies of water for this area.^ we had a whole lot of snow back home, and there's a lot of area that feeds the ottertail....

How is 40.8 feet not flooding? The major concern they had was if it were 2-4 degrees warmer when the last snow storm hit, it would have gone past that for sure.
2-4 degrees is a very fine line to be saying "Yeah, I'm going to put my hat on it not flooding"
Hell, even a day a head of time NWS and any local weather sation can be off 2-4 degrees.

If you really want to look at disorganization, you just have to look across the border at Moorhead. Compared to the Fargo/ND crew, the Moorhead/MN guys looked like 3rd graders playing Sim City....

I am just saying maybe he could have been more organized for the flood to come. Everything was kinda thrown together at the last moment. -
Moorhead= complete fuckin idiots.
This shit has to be ran by FEMA now. We're completely diking up the entire city, includin 8th st. making traffic a fuckin disaster.
Cant wait till next Mayoral elections.

also, a nasty rumor is circulating that they are trying to spend more money so FEMA WILL kick in. yikes

I about spit pop on my keyboard due to the Sim City comment from Dave....

I think Daves being too generous with the 3rd grade.
This is more like pre school-kindergarten.

I'd stay away from 8th street, first and foremost. I'd let the public know what areas are being used for contingency dikes ahead of time besides just going ahead and doing it-they let us know..by teling us to goto the website.
I think it's pretty pathetic that Moorheads got 2 of its busiest on/off ramps in shambles cwhile I dont believe Fargo has any problem with it.
I think Moorhead very behind as far as sewer systems, storm drainage goes.
I think Voxlands more concerned about his electric company than his city.
I thought the code red alert call was terribly orchestrated for residents north of interstate 94. A 6 AM call saying "WE HAVE TO GET OUT NOW" without there being even a breech in the dike, causing people to lose basements cause they evacuated.
Theres tons of people not happy with the way Moorheads running things right now, shit just turn on Ch. 12 and watch some of the town hall meetings. Every person has a problem, none of them are giving compliments.

ha, i hope fargo is in good shape, they dont do shit with the rest of the state. Case in point, breck has a diversion, huge dikes, all new lift stations that will keep up to pretty much anything, concrete flood walls, action plans to seal bridges and stuff with all the needed material stockpiled in close locations. Guess what wahp did after '97? Not a fucking thing. No sewer improvements, no street maintinence of any kind, no dike improvements, no flood walls, no new lift stations, and a clusterfuck of a government. If we get 2" of rain quick, wahps streets on the south side fill up clear to the sidewalks, breck you cant even tell

Dont you love how Voxland is always wearing a "Voxland Electric" shirt... at any press conf. What a d-bag I think he cares about his company more than the flooding.
Just read you other post...oops

The reason they are diking the on ramps is because they would flood at 40 some feet. That is done by MNDOT, not Voxland to allow the interstate system to keep working. 8th street is a contingency dike right? That is a back up in case the other dikes break. If it got past 8th street it would go all the way to 20th St. The red alert call should of told you to plug your drains, your fault if you did not and got sewer back up. Moorhead may not be perfect, but any one can be critical of those in charge. Hindsight is alway 20/20. I think they have done a decent job.

Voxland should've had some sort of permanent dike placed there anyhow, or atleast attempt to.
8th St. yes is contingency. So why make moorheads busiest, most used street a safehaven? why not just dike up all of 4th, which theyre not doing and all of 5th? Why 8th?
The red alert call wasn't just "plug our drains". My moms exact words were "you need to evacuate now". Hence why everyone around woodlawn, down south of rivershore lost their houses cause they thought we were fucked. Especially at 6 AM? seriously thats pretty pathetic. Sure most of the water that is fucking with peoples houses is the lake on every single street corner finally catchign up to us. 1 leaf will plug those fuckers.
We didn't get any sewer back up and our drains were plugged.
I think this is all just dumb, but what do I know.
