I'd stay away from 8th street, first and foremost. I'd let the public know what areas are being used for contingency dikes ahead of time besides just going ahead and doing it-they let us know..by teling us to goto the website.

I think it's pretty pathetic that Moorheads got 2 of its busiest on/off ramps in shambles cwhile I dont believe Fargo has any problem with it.

I think Moorhead very behind as far as sewer systems, storm drainage goes.

I think Voxlands more concerned about his electric company than his city.

I thought the code red alert call was terribly orchestrated for residents north of interstate 94. A 6 AM call saying "WE HAVE TO GET OUT NOW" without there being even a breech in the dike, causing people to lose basements cause they evacuated.

Theres tons of people not happy with the way Moorheads running things right now, shit just turn on Ch. 12 and watch some of the town hall meetings. Every person has a problem, none of them are giving compliments.

The reason they are diking the on ramps is because they would flood at 40 some feet. That is done by MNDOT, not Voxland to allow the interstate system to keep working. 8th street is a contingency dike right? That is a back up in case the other dikes break. If it got past 8th street it would go all the way to 20th St. The red alert call should of told you to plug your drains, your fault if you did not and got sewer back up. Moorhead may not be perfect, but any one can be critical of those in charge. Hindsight is alway 20/20. I think they have done a decent job.

Voxland should've had some sort of permanent dike placed there anyhow, or atleast attempt to.

8th St. yes is contingency. So why make moorheads busiest, most used street a safehaven? why not just dike up all of 4th, which theyre not doing and all of 5th? Why 8th?

The red alert call wasn't just "plug our drains". My moms exact words were "you need to evacuate now". Hence why everyone around woodlawn, down south of rivershore lost their houses cause they thought we were fucked. Especially at 6 AM? seriously thats pretty pathetic. Sure most of the water that is fucking with peoples houses is the lake on every single street corner finally catchign up to us. 1 leaf will plug those fuckers.

We didn't get any sewer back up and our drains were plugged.

I think this is all just dumb, but what do I know.

They have only done a decent job because everything has held, or the worst case scenario hasn't materialized. Moorhead's planning seemed a lot more hasty and it showed with them evacuating as many people as they did.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

I dont think it is Voxlands fault for not having permanent protection...and I am sure the street they choose to have protection has elevation factors weighed in. All in all, this sucks period, but I am not sure a another mayor would have done anything different. Remember, fargo-moorhead is a bed of an old lake....not like this place hasnt been flooded before. Just thank god a 500 year flood didnt come this year.

I think this was a 500 year flood. I know my mother is in the 500 year plain, actually at the very end of it, and our neighborhood was supposed to have water at right about 41ft(if there were no levees of course), which is easily in the 500 year plain that FEMA has given us in '97 as well as this year.

Which is why everyone North of 94, south of main, and west of 8th got a code red call. The river entered a stage where we would be flooded if it werent for levees.

In all honesty, who even knows lol. That 100year and 500 year crap is worthless in the grand scheme of things without elevation.

I think it is going to get worse too. Have you looked at upstream levels. Maybe not, more might start shooting to the Wild Rice..

Where are you at? Just North of the WF shop on east side??

I remember in 97' the intersection at 17 and 20 being under then N to Harwood. Cannot recall water being on 17 down there though.

I drove out to Bismarck and back today and the water is so close to the bridge as you go over the river on i94 in valley city. I have never seen it like that before.

The water was still over 17 and 20 until tuesday...I haven't been down there tonight though, I'm assuming it's back over again. Talking to the neighbors that were here in 97 they have all said that there is a spot on 17 right in front of the house that is south of mine that the water went over by about 6 inches for a few days (holy long, run on, doesn't make any sense sentence).

It looks like it is raising an inch an hour right now.

I like how it has allready surpassed the 10% chance projected.

                                http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ahps2/weekly.php?wfo=fgf&gage=wfon8&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1&toggles=10,7,8,2,9,15,6

Plus it will probably be at the projected crest in about 5 hours that they though was going to hit on the 14th.

                                http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=fgf&gage=wfon8&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1&toggles=10,7,8,2,9,15,6
