Computer help

I've been having problems with my laptop for a while, and was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fix, or get around the problem. When I start my computer it goes to the login screen like normal (windows xp)... i've tried logging in under my user and the guest, but what happens is it'll start to log in, then 2 sec later it will say logging off and go back to the login screen... Is there anyway to get around this, so I can at least backup all the stuff saved on the computer...

If it's the same problem I had awhile ago booting in safe mode won't work. It's most likely a boot-sector virus.
I followed some steps on here: http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Boot-Sector-Virus and fixed my issue.

If that doesn't work, load a flash drive with Ubuntu and boot from that to get all your stuff off.Yup... or yank the HD out of it and put it in another computer.
If it's a SATA drive it will plug right in to a desktop; if its a 2.5inch IDE drive, you may need an adapter...

I dont know if ittl work in a boot sector virus, however i did have a drive that somhow had a bad mbr and i used maxtools (maxtor) and did a mbr repair and the computer booted right up after that. i dont know what mfr your drive is but find out and the download the apropriate dignostic software. so if its a maxtor, use maxblast, if its a seagate use seatools, if its a western digital, they are owned by maxtor now so maxblast should work. Good luck
