Xbox: Broken HDD
-
I have an xbox with a broken HDD, it makes loud clicking noises and I get an error page w/ no number.
All the info i've found on this requires the old HDD to be working and a mod chip, neither of which i have.thanks

nah, i bought it this way so i could fix it, didn't realize swapping the HDD would be this complex, LOL.
anyone know of another forum i could post on for an answer? i searched for a few hours last nite and didn't find any that looked too great.

haha, its not as easy as you'd think, nor as cheap.
If your going to be using a mod chip, your looking at $60+ dollars plus the additional cost of a harddrive, and then soldiering the chip in.
Soft-Modding an xbox is free, but you need to be familiar with unix and exploits to do it. Swapping the harddrive is harder with just soft mods, oh and it can't just be any harddrive, if i remember correctly, samsung works well with them... you have to change how the drive reads to the xbox and stuff...
If your in over your head, let me buy it

well, i want to mod it anyways so i can put games on the HDD, so the modchip isn't a big deal. I can solder it in w/ out a problem.
the problem is all i can find info on is how to replace a hdd that is already working, i don't have that luxury. Would i be able to take the image from another xbox HDD and use it?
I've found the list of HDD that works.
