UND nickname

okay okay sorry guys i know this maybe a repost and what not but its getting close to the term of the fighting sioux nickname and yea maybe some of you dont care or could give 2 shits about it...and i have searched on this forum about this topic and i have read alot of your points on the matter but i would like to clarify somethings here for you....i myself am slap my mouth 11/16th SIOUX no he dident and am an enrolled tribal member of the standing rock sioux tribe....heres a little bit of the history that i know and was told to by a few tribal council members that suport the sioux nickname.(as does 70% of this tribe) the name Sioux is from the turtle mountain band of chippewa language (partial french) they had given our people this name over a hundred years ago...the meaning of the word Sioux is "snake in the grass" because when our war partys would invade enemy camps (mainly chippewa,mandan,hidatsa) we would sneak into their camps by hiding our bodies as coyotes or other animals etc. or painting our bodies dark (hence the military adopted this as camo) as the colors of the grass or night and we would sneak in like snakes and steal horses and other things food etc. now this was back when wagons still roamed this prairie..now fast forward a few decades after the Battle of Little Bighorn where General George Armstrong Custer took his last stand well i assume most of you know your history...world war 1 and world war 2..thousands of native americans fought in these wars and alot of them Sioux ops thiers that word again well our tribe has adopted the name Sioux for generations before and Standing Rock honored Ralph Englestad as a friend and Brother of our tribe. WE SIOUX gave UND its nickname and IMO it should stay that way...And to all the racial comments that may follow or have followed Native Americans Not all natives are the same not all natives drink everyday not all natives live off the government. and fyi native americans dont go to school for FREE at UND it takes alot of hard work to achieve those SCHOLARSHIPS and money to go to school at UND and OTHER COLLEGES. i MYSELF have an excellent paying job have an education and have served my country through the army during OEF/OIF. i spent 2 yrs active duty and 4 yrs reserve with a time line of 6yrs in service and im damn proud to be a sioux a FIGHTING SIOUX at that. and thiers thousands more native americans like myself out thier. its just the ones who settle for that 1st of the month check that make the rest look bad.i have tons of caucasan friends and african american friends and mexican friends. i dont judge people by their ethnic background nor their salary. i just thought id put this out thier for my .02 and that alot of the tribal members support this nickname...thanks for letting me rant---

And max is right , no one at this point can change what will happen.

actually guys as of right now their is a petition going around to all tribal members to allow the members of the tribe to vote on this matter. i can guarantee that enough people sign UND will keep its nickname and guys i apologize on behalf of my culture how ignorant some of us can be on just a name.

Im a huge sioux fan and like someone said doesnt matter what the name changes to, but i will always call them the fighting sioux. If the name changes im sure ALOT of people will still go to the games wearing there sioux apparel.....as will I !!! Im from GF so thats why i am so passionate about this subject
