And look at the numbers of drug dealers along racial lines (out of prison). Blacks (and other minorities) predominantly spend more time in jail than their white counterparts for the same type of crimes (statistically speaking....can't say what the specifics of the crime were).
According to most reports, people tend to buy drug from same race drug dealers and something like 3/4 of the drug users in the country are white (don't have time to cite a source, so someone feel free to correct me)

You guys need to get out and see the world. I live in the ghetto of Dublin, and almost every single problem we ever have in our area is all done by your precious little white kids who could never have done anything wrong. They steal cars, burn cars, vandalize everything, starting fights, drugs, you name it. I will guarantee you that I would much rather be around any minority there because they mind there own business and stay out of trouble.
Weird that when white kids grow up in poor/rough situations, they do the same things that make you hate ALL black people. I better start hating all white people.

Please take a look at the percentages and maybe you can figure out why most of the crimes are by whities;
White 91.16%
Asian 2.63%
Black 1.81%
Mixed Race and Other 1.46%
Irish Traveller 0.4% -
Actually, most of the crimes are by the smallest group, Irish Travellers. Im would guess over 50% of serious crimes are commited by them, and they are white just FYI.
As far as the statistics go, that is for all of Ireland, almost all of the country is white, the city is where minorities are so in my area, the minorities are higher than that, but still not overwhelming at all. My point wasn't so much about the percentage of crimes by race, but more that the white kids do the exact same things, sometimes worse when they grow up in the same ghetto conditions.

Well, the majority of the prison population is white -- just like the majority of the US population. However, i did pull some data off the BJS website and made this excel chart:
Essentially, blacks have a disproportionately high representation in the correctional system in the US.
One thing you cannot easily do from this website is get incarceration numbers by race and offense type as sort of a 2d matrix.
The often heard contention is that black people do prison time over drug offenses a much larger percentage of the time as compared to white folks. I cannot find the data to support or refute this.
So from my POV, i'd like to be able to run the numbers with more granularity. Do blacks show a propensity to violent offenses? If so, is it black-on-black violence, or mixed-race violence? How much of it is drug-related?
The FBI Hate Crime database does do some of that sort of data breakdown, and it is interesting.
The year-over-year prison population for drug related offenses was showing double digit growth in the mid 80s... i.e. during the Reagan war-on-drugs years. It's now back into the single digit range.
One interesting thing is that incarcerations in all categories nosedived in 2001. Wonder if people just chilled out over 9/11 or something?

Where is your point here? The facts I posted above says enough. There are by far more blacks who cause crime in the US than there are whites. End of story.

the data clearly shows that the majority of US prisoners are white people. What you may have meant to say is that as a percentage of their total population, blacks have a higher rate incarceration. The data does show that quite definitively.
As to the other comment earlier, the insinuation that black people commit crimes because they are poor is unsupported. The majority of welfare recipients in the USA are white (but so are the majority of ultra-wealthy people). To be able to say that low living stanard ==> prison, one would need to present some more compelling data. And even so, it would merely be correlating data, and not demonstrate causation.

So, we have established that while blacks use slightly more drugs than whites, the whites have a higher percentage of people convicted of homicide and rape/sex crimes.

Inspector - You live in a town where white's like to cause chaos and crime. Do you care to share what the ratio of blacks to whites is there? I'm willing to be it's quite the astronomic ratio. Which would explain why there are few blacks commiting crimes.

Well, I do, because I'd let most of the people in jail on drug charges out of jail. IMO, crimes need to have victims to be real crimes, and "yourself" isn't a valid victim. Ergo, most drug offenses aren't *offensive to me *at all.
If blacks were still going to jail at 4x the rate of the white population even when drug convictions were thrown out (which they may well be), I'd be pretty curious about the underlying causes of that.
On the other hand, if the data were to show that black people are in jail because they know the cheapest way to get free rent, meals, and cable TV for a few years is to be caught carrying weed, should I be mad at them, or should i be mad at the stupid laws/enforcement in this country?
So, what they did (and to who) matters a lot if you are trying to draw some useful conclusion from this [which is kind of a questionable goal to begin with]
And it's all intellectual rather than pragmatic anyway: the fact that 8% of the black population is currently in jail doesn't tell you anything about the black guy infront of you -- he may have already done time and got let out and is just itching to find someone to victimize so he can get a ticket back in, or he may be so good that he never gets caught, or he could be like the overwhelming majority of blacks that simply don't commit serious crimes.
