-This is assuming the AP is correct that Chris Dodd will announce his retirement sometime today.

They both knew they were done the next election cycle anyway, it saves them the embarrassment of running again.

Dorgan had been talking amongst dems about retiring for several years already, in fact the last election cycle they literally begged him to stay. I don't know that he would have lost, but it certainly would have been a close race and probably turned into a bash fest IF Hoeven had chosen to run.

Right now if/when Hoeven announces his candidacy, I will be throwing my support behind him, pretty much regardless of who runs against him (unless I get the call to run against him....not holding my breath, lol)

I know very little about Hoeven actually. The thing I can say about Dorgan.. everytime i contacted his office about something, he got back to me. Better than "my" reps when I lived in Washington.. or "my" state reps here in Fargo.
