Need a new vehicle, the Z wont do for what im looking for, need something that gets at least 30 or more mpg. Im going to UND this fall so my parents told me I should look for a good mileage vehicle. My budget is 10K at the most. I was looking at fairly new cars, im really liking the 2005 VW Golf GTI, and it has to be automatic, what you guys have in mind?

04-05ish Impreza 2.5i (30mpg/23mpg)...
If you wanted 30mpg city, I think the loss of 7 mpg will be well worth it in safety and reliability....and resale.

The miles driven will mostly be interstate / highway miles, and yea it will be driven all year round. I thought about a subaru but then thought they were too expensive. There are lots of wrxs for $10k and less... 2.5s are even cheaper...

You cant really come close to the value they offer.

if the point is just to commute, get a diesel jetta or Golf. You will get stupid good mileage. Think just under 50mpg highway. Put proper snow tires on it in the winter.
It won't be anywhere near as fun as a subaru but will get much, much better mileage. Additionally, for doing boring driving on the interstate back and forth, a subie isn't going to be any better or safer than a FWD car.
