Cable one ping slow

Is your console hooked up directly to your modem, or do you have a router? If you have a router, there are things you can do to get better performance for gaming. Look online at various gaming forums to find instructions for setting a static ip, then opening ports for it, etc. But if you are hooked directly to the modem, there really isn't much that can be done.

I have my PS3 directly connected via cat6 to the modem and set up in DMZ, NAT type 1.

I get 110ms+ with the PS3 browser and with IE on my desktop with speedtest. I can only get in 110ms lobbies in MW2, before iwas in the 60ms lobbies with the same setup.

Ive been having alot more trouble with mine since i moved as well. I used to never lag and my movies always streamed hd. Now im at 2 bars for movies and im constantly getting kicked. Same exact setup just different location. Not to happy.

I have been having a lot of problems with Cable One's internet lately, more-so in the past 2 months. Internet goes down probably once a week in my area and sometimes it will just turn of for 30 seconds then come back on...not to mention the random throttling.

I hate it.

Threads like this make me happy Moorhead got Midcontinent...Hell they just upgraded our speed so now we're at 20/2 and cheaper than Cable One's 5/.7 or whatever the package is.

I've tried everything and I'm convinced the poor performance is on their end. I've had their broadband for 4 years and the service gets worse every year.:mad:

One of the things that encourages people seeking low pings to buy cable is that most cable-based ISPs use fewer things to deteriorate service vs DSL companies. Personally, I'm happy with the consistent service that my DSL provides, even though the ping is consistently 40-50ms slower than cable was.

If you're experiencing increased latency, contact Cable One and ask them about service issues in the area. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I've had problems with service through Cable One, they were pretty quick to address it.
