Drawthrough 3.8 Cutlass Updates
-
Well I thought Id throw up a few pics of what is up with the Olds.
As purchased 2 years ago. Complete with an inch of sap, crusty interior, and redneck installed 455 Olds.

455 sitting on buick V6 motor mounts, in other words, sits 2 inches high and back. And it was yellow....

Nice interior right?

Nicest guage mounting ever

Got it running after the snow melted. By the time I got the timing set (did I mention that the PO cut out a section of the firewall to get the distributor to fit) it still was 4 degrees off. Went out, did 2 burnouts, and blew the trans. And the truck raditor was inadiquate too.
New motor

Running with new motor

After a really good clean up, and a ton of buffing compound.

Then came a cutlass salon to change interiors

Then came a new down pipe. Replaces the stock 2.25 OD with like a 2" ID crincle bent pipe with a 2.5" mandrel.

SPRING 2010
Got ran into, GRRRR There goes why I bought the car. Lazer straight body and no rust.

Then came a new header panel to get through the summer

Stripped the interior.

Then the other cutlass got primed, and the 455 installed with a TH 375

New interior

Cold air, down pipe.

Pypes 2.5" cat back with race pros.

Firebird spoiler test fit.

Taken apart to fix a bent push rod, and put on ported heads, clean up the wiring, paint the frame, fix the fenders, put in the aluminum core support.

Ported heads. Gary did the rough porting, I did the clean up, Bill did the valve job

Theres 3 reasons why carb turbos are slow, and the 86-87 SFI cars are fast. Poor engine management, the stock knock retard just plain sucks. Most run like garbage. And the intake and turbo. They are just BAD.

Intake ported

New turbo project. 87 GN garet T3 compressor in 1980 foot style turbo. The stock compressor maxes out at way under 450 CFM, stock GN goes up to 600.

Stock 80 inducer in housing machined for 87 inducer.

Stock 80 exducer on left, stock 80 exducer on right. The 80 exducer is just HEAVY. Waiting to get the smaller 83 exducer. Did I ever mention how hard it is to get parts for these things?

Got one head on this weekend. Other gasket is stuck on a truck in Illinois. Got the heads assembled, timing chain on, cam in, and cleaned stuff up. If I had got that gasket Id have a running motor minus wires and hoses.
Pushrods and flat tappets are awesome! Hehehe!

Yes it is a ton of blue. But thats how they rolled off the line at Flint Mi. The manifolds didnt have overspray (burns off anyways) and the s hose from the intake to the water pump wasnt blue (overspray) but thats about as close as I can get for a rattlecan resto in the car.
I considered getting the timing cover and intake blasted to bare aluminum but I got lazy, and well didnt. Was going to get a set of 84/85 GN valve covers too but Ive still got the steel ones so you can see how that turned out.
If my PCV grommet is right I might have a running motor next weekend. :icon_smurf:

Car is done with bodywork and is sanded down. Have some epoxy primer sittin on the shelf along with the 2K and paint. Got my trans line leak fixed too. Drove it around the block to make sure it didnt leak and have decided some 3.08's and a posi would fit very nice in the rear.... Im sick of a pegleg 2.41

Black would look great, but i dont feel like getting the car lazer straight. Just want to get the paint on it. Color Im going with is Jadestone. Its a dark green that as a decent amount of metallic in it. Car was close to that from the factory (Dark Jadestone Metallic) so I just chose to try and keep it stock. I can get away without having to paint all the stuff like the trunk seams and door jambs.
If I pulled the body off the frame Id go with a different color but color changes are such a PITA to do without tearing apart everything I just went for this green. Its actually a pretty cool color.
It should be pretty close to this, 2 years ago when I got it buffed out and waxed.
