Well it just seems silly. Our ships are in the Persian golf doing a number of things, protecting our trade interests in the area, supporting our allies, and our war efforts in that part of the country. What would their ships be doing off our coast? They have no trading here, no allies, and no war efforts, so....

I'm pretty sure it would be incredibly hypocritical to try and stop them, when we do it at many places around the world all the time. Hopefully it doesn't turn into anything more, but if we can do it, they should be allowed to....

Our current "world police" attitude stems from the Truman doctrine/Marshall plan. Remember the last time we sat idly by and let the world do its thing? WW2. Then it took us 4 years, thousands of lives, billions of dollars, and 2 nukes to dig it out/restore order. The threat, or perceived threat of being the biggest and baddest kid on the block goes a long way to keeping the peace in the world, not that it fixes everything. This attitude has had good (Berlin/Israel/France/aid to africa/Afganistan in the 80's/Rebuilding Japan and Europe Post WW2/list goes on) and bad (Afganistan in the 1990's/Vietnam/Iraq2.0/Cuba) consequences. So do we stop trying to help because sometimes it backfires? ( i wanted to put that little stirs pot smiley in here, but it seems he's gone).
