Just wondering if anyone on here was planning on picking one of these up. Would like to take a look at one close up. Just curious about how they will turn out.

I thought about it, but they just aren't practical enough for me to use it as a daily (No AWD, 2 door w/ small rear seats for kids) nor powerful enough (no turbo) to make me want to develop it into my next track car/show car.... and it's boring looking.

I'll be interested to see if they develop a turbo/STi version of the BRZ. If they do come through with that, then maybe I'll consider one.

I see where you are coming from with that. I can also see where they are coming from as well. They already have the WRX and STI in the AWD turbo segment, why throw another one in there, even if it is 2 door. From what i've read Subaru wanted to do AWD from the start, and Toyota didn't. In their testing the AWD system just added to much weight for the car to meet the goals they had set out for it.

They also have the Legacy GT and Forester XT for turbo AWD. I understand to a degree in not having the AWD platform, but Subaru is KNOWN for having AWD in all their modern cars. They built their business on doing that. They advertise the crap out of it. On a personal level it doesn't need to have AWD, and in some ways I'm happy it doesn't but to not have a turbo OR AWD on what is supposed to be the sportiest car in the lineup seems....ummm... like something Honda would do....

Supposedly the BRZ has been getting very good reviews from all of the different places that have got to play with one. The Subaru version is looking to be a more "loaded" car, with the Scion being the base model. Basically starting out at the Premium model(mid level), and then a Limited Model. I did also read that there is supposed to be room to fit 4 wheels and tires in the trunk.

I plan on checking this car out at the Minneapolis Autoshow in March.

I have been watching the progress of this car for a long time. I agree with others, a turbo version would really spark my interest further; however, its still a ways away. There are pictures of a concept BRZ STi, it looks to have different aero, brembos, a wing, and no hood scoop(granted that doesn't mean much at this stage).

Joel, you have any pricing info on those? All i can find is speculation about the scoob being in the 25k range and the scion in the 22-23k range.

I think throwing AWD on it would ruin the purpose of the car -- certainly in Toyota's lineup. I don't understand why subaru wants to be involved. My hope is that it's a pure RWD 2+2 coupe - light, and with a modest engine (which is also why i am glad there's no turbo). If it's supposed to be an AE86 successor, its supposed to be about low price and light chassis. Everything else would be secondary..

I'm going to drive one when I get a chance. I won't buy one, but I like that Toyota is doing this.
