Except for the whole V6 thing. I'm wanting to swap a 5.0 as soon as I get some money. Anybody have any pointers?

Unless the body/interior is in awesome condition, and you got the car for super cheap, just go buy a 5.0.

About the 5.0, you need to have a talk with wildstallion, he will tell you everything u need to know about a mustang, no matter what year it is. When it comes to stangs, he's the king by far.

There has already been a few good sites listed here for you to check out. I did the whole swap a 5.0 into a Fox a few years back as well... and one of the best resources I ever found was this site:
                  http://www.jason.fletcher.net/
Swapping a carbed 5.0 into a Fox can be a lot cheaper then swapping in a EFI 5.0 depending on where you find your parts.
If you wouldn't mind having a carbed setup... my best recommendation would be to go find an old late 70's T-Bird for cheap with a 302 in it. You can use pretty much everything out of it... even the FMX transmissions that come with them.
Just remember you need a rear or dual sump oil pan on a 302 for it to fit in a Fox Stang.
If you have any other questions when you get going... feel free to drop me a PM.
                  Good luck.

I agree carbed is simpler to work with and to manage most times imo.

My old 85 mustang had a 4cyl in it originally then my uncle dropped a 351W then i bought her. Well much "cruisin" later she crapped out on me. So i got an old T-bird 302..(77 or 76 if i remeber correctly) and a C4 tranny and swapped that into her. I'd be glad to help ya find a 5.0 and swap it...but i'm not gonna be up there unitl end of may(ish). But its a fairly easy process with the right tools and help 😄

Did someone swap a V6 in your fox? I don't think I have heard of a V6 in an 86.

Anyhow, if you wante to buy a Gt, there are 2 here in Minot. If you want the swap, there are plenty of guys on the www.corral.net that have info on it. You wanna go carbed or fuel injected?

                              In 1986, Engine code "3" was a 3.8 liter, 232 cubic inch V6.

                              The other options that year:
                              Engine code "A" - 2.3 liter 4 cyl
                              Engine code "T" - 2.3 liter SVO
                              Engine code "M" - 5.0 liter

BTW, The engine code can be found as the 8th digit/letter in the vehicle's VIN.

Yep its a stock V6 TBI. What kinda prices should I look for when coming to the engine? And what was the year range for the thunderbird 302, I heard 70s?

It all depends on your mechanical experience and how much you feel you can do yourself... If you have to buy a fully rebuilt engine, it is going to cost more. If you can do some of the work yourself to the engine to get it back to tip-top shape, then you can find something cheaper. You can usually find an old 70's T-Bird with a running 302 for well under $1000. Like I said earlier, the nice thing is... you can use just about everything out of it. The Engine, Tranny, all pulley's, power steering pump, alternator, etc.
For our project, we actually picked up a '70 Ford F-100 with a 302 for $100 and used the engine out of that. The transmission (FMX) we took out of a '78 T-Bird though.

Pretty much any of those old 70's T-Bird's should work well for this swap project of yours. If you can, try and find one with a C4 transmission. The FMX we found works great, but I have heard/read the C4's were more durable.
                                  Good luck!

And also 302's are one of if not the best engine as far as parts and mods, and the abundance of them anywhere. So even if the 302 is missing something like headers, heads......lots of options to find parts for em.
