I've never had an exhaust ticket, I have custom dual exhaust with glasspacks, the nice thing about them is that they are quiet at idle and don't bark until I open it up, then it has a very nice cackle

Sounds like you deserved it for being a dick.Everyone bitching about loud exhaust needs to realise, the ticket EVERYONE. Trucks, bikes, imports, etc, not just you. If you keep the rpms low, and don't accelerate too quickly, a cop isn't even going to notice your loud exhaust. You just need to learn how to keep your exhaust quiet when there are cops around. Trust me, I know, I would say I have the loudest exhaust of ANYONE on this site. No tickets here.

and it's actually called a "sound level meter" if you want to search the net or catalogs -
those are usually only good to 120dB or so last I checked.
Edit: Just checked 126dB. Not quite loud enough for some of our exhausts.
