My car is factory equipped with a trunk mounted battery. I don't think I Am required to have a master switch in the bumper. I could be wrong though. If so, Then I wont be runnning at the strip. There's no way I'm cutting a hole in my car for that.

my trunk is not sealed due to the rear seat being removed. i have abox from advanced autoparts. I dont know if it is approved or not tho. Who can install a shut-off switch for cheap?

It is just a plastic battery box with a strap over the cove to hold it in, and the box is screwed into the floor.

i picked up a switch at performance auto. One other questiong i have is, do i need a metal holdown kit inside of the marine box? The guys at performance said i might but i should check on it.

Yep, metal box. It must be properly BOLTED, not screwed into the trunk floor. Shut off switch doesn't shut off the battery, it kills the fuel system (i believe).

some tracks let it slide some don't. I know of one guy who had a battery in his trunk held in by bungy cords last year at interstate drags. Just depends on the track (and who checks the car) , but the offical rules are metal box.

The box doesn't have to be metal, it just has to be completly sealed and approved, which marine boxes are not. I used the Moroso box in my talon. Also unless your using a dry cell battery it must be vented to the atmosphere as well. The battery must also be fastened down instead the box.

WTF? Shut off the fuel system? This is getting more and more complicated. Why is it called a BATTERY shut off switch if it kills the fuel system?

Someone please explain this to me....I am completely lost. Just tell me everything i need to do to beable to run out at the track with my battery in the trunk.

                              So far i understand:
Sealed Box(bolted down, not screwed), Water cell batter must vent into the atmosphere, and the battery must be held down inside the box

The cut off switch must shut everything off not just cut power to the battery. If you cut power only to the battery the vehicle will stay running for a period of time just off the alternator itself. Basically the cut off switch has to cut power to the alternator and the battery so that when the switch is turned the off position the vehicle will shut down.

In other words you're gonna need some relays hooked up to your ignition system so that it can be easily shut down, because honestly, most cars can run for a long long long time w/o their batteries. In fact the batteries ONLY purpose on a modern automobile is to provide a means to start the car (and during surges when the alternator can't keep up...but even then its not really efficient at that) and run your accessories when the key is switched off.

this is really f-ing complicated, i think i am just going to say screw it for now, until i understand how to do it. i have no idea ho to hook it up if it has to shut everything down.

Your not gaining anything in a civic by putting the battery in the trunk. Only reason i can see is to make room for a fuel cell or water tank for a air-water IC.
