anybody have RCTC3 or SimCity4?

Hey that's cool let's pirate more software - it's not like programmers make money off the games we purchase. I mean here's a great idea, EVERYONE NEVER BUY SOFTWARE EVER, that way we can never have good games anymore! EXCELLENT IDEA! Cheap bastards......
-
Well how about we just flip off the chain and start bitching about people pirating software thats a few years old and only nets the company that makes the product a few dollars. Why? because its being sold way cheaper then it was when it was released.
Drake ( yes I know its you ) you should know best that a company only intends to make the bulk of their money upon release of the games, and or software. Hence the reason for the $50 on up to $300 prices for certain games/software. And the drastic price drop when they have been out for a few months.
Now how about we end this before it breaks out in a big old rant thread again.

I just think piracy is getting out of hand. Understand I go to NDSU for programming, hopefully I'll make programs, and I hope by that time Piracy didn't get that insane. I do think though, sooner or later all games will be available to download to play once you pay there fee (IE: Valve) making it 10x cheaper for software companies to sell there intellectual property making the prices cheaper.

no matter what companies do, piracy will never be completely stopped. there will ALWAYS be a way for people to get software for free. just learn to live with it.Sony Online Entertainment would disagree with you. They've had, what 3 major MMORPG's and only one semi-successful hack (the guy made it in and got arrested later the same day) in the past 6 years. I see more subscription type games happening in the future.

This is bullshit. People pay good money $40-$60 for a game then they have to pay to play it. WTF is that shit? It's like buying a playstation or xbox and finding out after you open it that it has a quarter slot on it. But I guess there are a lot of gamers willing to pay a monthly fee so software companies are going to keep doing this.
As far as pirateing in general goes, it's not as bad as your led to believe, the media makes it out to be something far worse than it is, almost like a terrorist bombing or something, they say the artists are the one who suffer and don't get paid when infact it's the record company execs that's are pissed that they only made $500 million instead of the usual $750 million. Don't get me wrong, the artists are getting screwed, not by us the comsumer, but by the record label that signed them. It's the label that takes the $$$$$ while the artist works there ass off to recieve only a fraction of what they deserve. Thats why so many bands are now independent or stay underground, and some more established artists that have been signed to a label decide to leave and start there own label or do it themselves. Look how fricken many fricken hip-hop/rap labels there are, A shit load, the majority of which are indepent and owned by the artists themselves.
It used to be that copying or duplicating was ok as long as it was for your own personal use and you charge $ to do it. Now it's ok only as long as sites do charge to download. The problem isn't pirateing it's fuckin' GREED.
If I buy a cd, That's mine to do with what I please, I bought my own little share of there empire so if I choose to share it with world via P2P, They my boughten and god given right to do so.
CARING IS SHARING.........FUCK THE RIAA

Sorry to hijack the thread, I guess I got a little carried away.

(End Rant)IDC - a 3rd party company that does numerous business statistics for each and individual markets calculated that the US alone is responsible for $30 billion dollars in software piracy alone. This is no music, movie, or any other kinds of media whatsoever. The US is 3rd; globally, in the amount of piracy. South Korea being #1 - $30 billion dollars is a lot. Way to much, and it isn't going down.

I'm not saying there isn't piracy, just that the reason it's been made such a big deal of is that the executives and presidents of these companies who the money lost is nothing but pocket change to are doing the bitching. Yes some artists are complaining, Thanks Lars, but if it was just them it probably would've almost completely blew over by now.
Yes, $30 billion is alot. But it it's nothing compared to money being made.
Personally I think this is just more beurocratic bullshit to try to make us feel guilty.
Your either for or against. Or have no computer.

i got a sim city 4 iso the other day, but for some reason it wont run.. even when mounted with daemon tools.
and on the piracy note, people neglected to mention that after napster became popular, music sales SKYROCKETED. today, video games alone account for hundreds of billions of dollars put into our country's economy. it all really does come down to greed. have you ever seen a literally poor businessman complaining about how he cant make any money because of piracy? no. its all the top business execs bitching about how they couldnt take home an extra couple million dollars that they dont need.
maybe if companies didnt charge 15 bucks for a 10 song cd, or 55 bucks plus another 15 a month to play a game, we wouldnt have such a problem.
you cant deny that its all about greedy bastards wanting more and more money. its about them having to pay for their multi million dollar houses with garages full of ferraris.

Umm, paying $15 a month for constantly updated games to be played on their servers which provide 24 hour tech support at no additional cost (aside from the $15) is a pretty decent deal, thats about $.50 per day....less than a can of pop. BTW, to play XBox online you need to pay for xbox live. Some PS2 games have a fee to play online as well.
Prior to beta'ing EQ1 (everquest 1 for those out of the loop) I would not have paid to play online, but that game was AWESOME for its time and was worth it for me to pay to play (used to be 9.95/month.) I would have paid double that actually back then since it was mostly state of the art and so worth it.
I agree though that it seems odd to buy a game and then pay for the right to play it, but the MMORPG genre is here to stay, and with that comes subscription fees.

You wonder why they charge $55 now? Next gen console games will START at a price of $70 guarenteed. More costs of development, making games is not cheap, paying the people to do it, is not cheap. Trust me - all software WOULD BE CHEAPER if piracy was 1/3 of what it is today. Yes music sales skyrocketed, but I am talking about software piracy, it's bad, stop doing it and go buy the damn software like you should.
As for SimCity 4 not working for Daemon Tools - first off Daemon Tools is not the end all be all of piracy cracking - CD emulation programs are very very easy to over run - its just the newb way of pirating, newb, but very effective (I still use it) - if you want it cracked there is a couple ways of doing it, you just have to write a cfg/bat file into the directory of the program to manually search for 3 files that you will extract from the CD manually.

Actually, I hope Microsoft does great, I have them in my stock portfolio.

u sure thats a smart idea? Thing's are still going down and now that John Wall has already filed claim and it appears Microsoft may actually rename there savior OS (They need to make it big this time, MBS products havent yieled a profit since they've been great plains) even if they keep the name, it will detract investors.
Man look at there 52 week portfolio and look at Sun's....almost the exact same......rofl I know where my money is NOT going.
Totally off topic, but to be back on topic RTCW3 is a kickass game, COD:UO kicks even more ass though
