I kinda expected that. I wonder if the older saab rally cars were just fwd. Because they were really good back in the 80s and such

Ok as some of you know I have a 88 Saab 900 Turbo. What I wanna end up doing is tuning it up to be a rally/road race car. Now I've watched rally for a little time now and most if not all the WRC cars are AWD. Is there a way to put awd on my car or what. Because I think like the Puegots and the Citroens have the Cosworth engine in them. Just so you know the Saabs are a FWD longetudinally mounted engine.

The ability to complete this type of project is going to be directly proportionate to the depth of your wallet.

Well in the end would it even be worth? How much better handling would I get out of it? Any increase in power output, like putting the horses to the ground?

            No
Probably worse understeer (unless your car is FWD...then it might be marginally better).
No, you would likely lose HP due to more moving parts/rotating mass.

you would be better off buying a car with awd then spending five times the value of your car to make it work. I would guess that you could be an owner of a wrx/sti for the price a shop around here would charge you to convert your existing vehicle properly-if they would even attempt such a thing- Even if that is the route you are willing to travel you would still have no more of a rally car then when you started...(stock suspension, odds are poor gearing for such an event, less power then stock trim, and most importantly a large hole in your pocket)

Getcher green hat, we are goin fishin.

Well thats a route that can be crossed off!! Oh yea I did find that Saab makes a race ready production car thats sold in europe with awd. Does anyone mind me just asking other questions in this thread so I don't have to start a million?

Saab sells an AWD platform in the states as well...based 100% on the WRX...actually, it is a WRX w/ Saab styling.

Oh yea I forgot about the 9-2x. Its sweet but it would be better as a sedan than a wagon. First new question, it has a little intercooler on that sits inside the engine bay, if I got a front mount IC would I be able to put 3inch intake piping in?

                    legacy image

Not sure if you can see all the piping there and the amount of room.

well... there's a difference between being able to do it, and whether or not it will improve the performance. your car likely has a 50-60mm (2-2.4") throttle body, do you really think that a 3" (75mm) intercooler pipe will improve anything?
if you look at many cars that run in auto-x (primarily), they use smaller piping.
