Exactly. my car slides out because i dont slow down before a corner, its not like i slide it sideways like a drift car, but it goes out a tiny bit. If you dont slow doen through a corner and thats why you slide out thats why its faster.

I was able to race the MazdaSpeed Miata on 4 different road corses...the Miata corners great...it could use a larger turbo but still had great power coming out of the corners...I was amazed how the little car performed

If I pushed my car to the point of sliding in a corner, (pushing it beyond the edge and not showboating) I would spin around at least once. Maybe I could pull out of it but it shure as hell wouldn't be fast. Setting yourself up properly to execute the corner, hitting the apex just right, and exiting the corner without loosing grip or momentum is the fastest way around a track.

If sliding was the fastest way around, then Michael Schumacher,Jeff gordon, And Miguel Duhamel would be the drift kings. That's my belief.

I can't claim to have any real education in track driving, but damn, I thought everyone knew that sliding is not the quickest way around a corner. If you're sliding the tires aren't making the car move in the direction it's pointed, and it's wasted energy.

Ah, ah, ah....now you're contradicting yourself. Miguel Duhamel DOES slide corners, as do all exceptional superbike riders. Watch a MotoGP or World Superbike race, they set themselves up for corners by "drifting" the rear end of the bike.......CAUSE ITS FASTER....the lap times have proven it. Schumacher and Gordon don't need to drift cause they have such large contact patches. If you can go into a corner at 500MPH, and have the suspension and tires to hold it, why slide? Bikes have maybe 2-5 square inches to put down 200-240HP, so sliding is faster. This is similar to what we see at local autocross events....tires and tracks that cant hold the cars' power. Shane won the Minot autocross in a stock(other than intake/cat back) S2000. He was one of the only guys that could slide the car effectively. He beat STis, Civics, other RWDs and other S2000s.

I agree with what you said above, in theory. Ya know, perfect world type stuff. But in real world racing, if your car can't hold the power, IMO, you can "cheat" the theory and slide.

I see your point. But now you tell me. Does this apply to Harwood and his FWD Civic?

                      No, cause he's dumb. 🙂

Seriously, I think both the driver and car would have to be phenomenal to take advantage of it. So, not take anything away from Harwood, my answer is no.

I highly doubt anybody I personally know (including myself) could take advantage of it.

The only gripe i have about mine is i wish 2nd gear was a little longer. Everytime i go down south and whip threw the curves im @ speeds i need to use 3rd gear but it's to low of a rpm to have enough power to pull threw so i gotta bounce 2nd off the limiter.

Actually, I'm anticipating that we both will want different gearing when we get em boosted. I have a feeling it will run out of legs real soon with the 4.30:1 final drive in the rear. 125mph in 5th is already making the engine sing.

I think the big downer on them is cause they have "chick car" rep.... but really the last body style was a 47/53 wieght distribution and the new one is 50/50 which is one of the big reasons why they handle so great....

parts are inexpensive just like honda's and just as plentifull... with just as many tuners cuase it's just a great plateform to start with

Miatas are great autox cars, in fact the MN Autosports Club (MAC) is teasingly called the "Miata Autosports Club". They perform great on the smaller courses, though they are not invincible.

They are the last of the affordable small roadster cars, you just can't help but like 'em.
