A bunch of generic no-name parts that will last about a year at most... no thanks.
I wonder how long the power inverters will last on those laptops.

That's just the point... I'd save my money and spend a bit more and buy a real computer that will actually last for awhile and run the way it should.

Right.....but some people are cheap asses and buy junk. I am sure it would be alright if you used it for engine management software.

Looks like it is being made by HP. My guess is that walmart is going to use the item as a "Loss-leader" and sell the item below their cost with the hope & expectation that people will spend their money on other items in the store so that they may recoup their initial loss with the sale of software and supplemental hardware. Almost all mass retailers use this technique, including grocery stores, as a way to get people in the door.

werd chuck...our sale(grocery store) items are more often than not under our cost...we rely on people that buy a cart full of groceries and do not just cherry pick and just buy the sale items at each store...

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

399 is 399. You get what you pay for, but I can say that for 400 bucks it'd be a great datalogging/car tuning laptop. You break it or drop it big fuckin deal.

Do you honestly think that any of the sub-1000 laptops are going to provide any better quality then the $399 ones at walmart? there are several other companies that are going to be offering cheap laptops that day too... I'm postive best buy will have some incrediblely low priced ones as well...

Price really isn't an indicator in quality, 3/4 of the shit they sell at best buy is junk

No offense to Tony here but, I might just go and buy one of the laptops. It's probably better than my old Dell (which I havn'e had a single problem with Tony). At least ON PAPER, it is a better performing computer in every aspect.

I'd buy one if I needed one for sure. Two years ago, I took a girlfriend out there and bought a deal like this (it was $650 or something, but at the time hott deal), and it's still going strong.

I bet there are going to be people fighting over these, much like tickle me elmo, PS2, and all other hot releases.
