Well I must be nuts but I baught Jim's CRX. I had always liked them, but usually the ones I found were too much $$$ or a pile of crap. Jim's was a nice car to start with. I took it out tonight to see how it handled, suspension wise it handled great and shouldn't need too much, but the engine and transmission were another story. It runs and drives great, but it feels like there is a weedwacker engine under the hood, and the transmission had too high of gears, it took forever to get to 7mph and even longer to get to 120mph. So I want to start with the engine first.

First on the list is the engine, Needs lots more power. I want to find a engine that is under $1500 that I can get some good power out of and has lots of potential for improvement, because next winter it will most likely get a turbo.

Second will be the transmission, either the engine has too little power or these gears seem way too long, geez I can get to 50mph in first gear, thats too high, and 2nd is really long, you could drive around town all day with just first and 2nd and do just fine.

Third will be the suspension, like performance springs, shocks, polyurethane everything, etc.

Forth will be brakes, not sure what is out there yet, but if I double or tripple the power on this car, it will need something to stop it.

And last will be the body, needs a tasteful bodykit that isn't too overboard, will need some 17" wheels, and just the right shade of Red, not sure which one, but not the stock honda red. and NO STICKERS OR BIG WINGS

Exhaust will have to be in there too, probally right after the engine and trans are done, no walmart specail muffler with a 5in tip, It will have to be something that is for performance and not looks.

So I am looking for your guys opinions, I want to get most of this done by next spring. I have been trying to figure out what is the best engine to go with but not sure, so I need your opinion on that.

So help me put this car together, any help is appreciated.

Well thats all I can think of now, but more will be added.

Motor doesn't produce that much power, and the HF has a tranny w/ extra long gears to get good gas mileage....

I'd give it a d16 vtec (d16z6 or d16y8) for a nice little power boost, then turbo that later. Its pretty much a direct swap if I remember correctly. And the tranny that comes with those engines is real short and should suit your acceleration needs.

And I'd like to try to talk you out of the 17's. 15's or 16's maybe?

          They call me, old man...

I'd say D16Z6 you can use a CRX SI tranny, bolt in swap

i would do a d16z6 or d16y8 swap. but if you want something alittle bit bigger motor wise i would try for a b16 or a LS/vtec. for exhaust it depends on what style your looking for. sometime if your get a performance exhaust it might be really loud, at least the one i had was. you might be able to find an exhaust system that is queit when your off the gas and it will be louder when you get on it. if you have any questions you can send me a pm and i will try to help you out as much as possible.

Those trannies won't go into CRX's without a conversion kit cuz they are hydro and CRXs are cable. But find an Si tranny if you go with d-series.

I have been looking at things, the B16A seems like a good engine, makes quite a bit of power. What do you think?

Maybe I should just buy this. I could convert the car to right hand drive too, lol. I wish I had that much cash.

Don't do a B16, if you're going B series, do an LS motor. They are very cheap, and perfect for turboing. I bet if you were to put a stock B16 swap and a stock LS swap into 2 CRX's, the LS would keep up if not win.

Contact teg2low on this forum cuz he has an LS vtec motor and like 2 vtec heads for pretty cheap. And he is a good guy to deal with.
