I cant decide if i should go with a fully built tranny from shep or go with fully built auto with a high stall and shift kit. The 5 speed would be alot cheaper and easier to install, the auto would be over 4 grand said and done and many hours of work to swap. Both should allow me to go fast but auto will allow me to go faster over time. Auto would be harder to drive on the street but would be managable. its not about the money because im taking out a little loan either way. Let me know what you guys think about the whole idea.

    Thanks-
    Jeremy ,SLD

I'd say ab auto trans for durability as well. You know that it only takes one wrong move to destroy an even built DSM tranny. I think for the fun part and streetability, a manual is the ticket.

I agree auto to go faster and ultimately last longer but you can't beat the fun of a 5spd although you are going to have some troubles keeping that thing from breaking...remember what I did to my tranny(yeah blah blah blah I couldn't drive whatever) but anyone can miss a gear at anytime...auto is also more consistant...

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Auto will take out the inconsistencies of the driver. And Jeremy we all know you need that! I'd say go auto, and be different, or just sell everything and get a car that's not a DSM.

Oh yeah and another thing, you won't have to worry about burning up clutch discs from not being able to hold the power you're going to be making this year.

Just out of curiosity, how much more power to the wheels do you expect to lose through the tranny with an auto compared to manual?

Even if he loses say, 45 hp through the wheels (won't be that much) he will make up for it by being able to launch at near full boost....and nothing shifts faster than an auto, so he will never need to lift off the throttle which can help in preventing missed shifts and helps prevent the car from transfering weight forward during shifts.

and the turbo will always be spooled once he spools it...
