actually, in California (and possibly other states) they can get food stamps, welfare, etc... The loophole that is being exploited is that if they have a child in the US, that child becomes a citizen automatically and that entitles the child to the benefits of this country which in turn gives the parents the right to receive welfare/social assistance on that child.
Think about it this way, if an airline started smuggling people from Iraq/Afghanistan into this country illegally they would be brought up on charges of supporting terrorism and the immigrants that they smuggled would be placed probably in Guantanamo Bay w/ other terrorists. I think that is exactly what we should do with anyone trying to enter our country illegally. Arrest them on suspicion of terrorist activitiy (being a burden on our economy is just as bad as anything else and has a longer term affect) and jail them in a terrorist holding camp until they can go to trial. How do we know that Al Qaeda hasn't infiltrated into Mexico? It would make sense and it would be easy to do...obviously the border isn't very secure down there so getting potential terrorists into this country would be easy and converting people to your beliefs would be rather easy if you had enough money.

tjamz, besides being extremely paranoid(hit the bong lately?), attempting to send every illegal to Gitmo would be pointless and impossible. Imagine the costs of funding a prison of that size, it costs billions as is. Illegal immigrants biggest impact on this country is its role in weakening the "middle class". Who benefits from cheap labor? The wealthy. Paying people peanuts to do a job that could command a real wage is a punch in the face of every working man and woman. It wasn't long ago that everyone was talking about job outsourcing and the outrage of people whose jobs were being filled by people in India for half the wage. Why are we not outraged that someone illegally in this country could take your job, not because they are more qualified, but because they will do the job for a third of what they pay you? This country we call home is on a bullet train in the wrong direction, when will we stand up and make that known? Seal the borders and streamline the immigration process! Viva revolucion!

I just see illegal immigration as one of the single most serious threats to this countries security and financial stability. I know that we can't send them all to Gitmo, as it is completely impracticle, the point I was trying to get across with that statement is that I think they should be treated as any other threat to our country is treated...with strict consequences. Groups crossing into this country illegally (IMO) are a threat to our well being and should be dealt with forcefully. If you tried to fly a plane into this country illegally you would be shot down if you failed to stop and noone would think twice about it. If you tried to crash the gates at the border with a car/truck/van/etc you would be shot if you failed to comply withpolice orders. Why is this any different? I can virtually guarantee you that if we actually tightened security at our borders by adding significantly more armed police officers to patrol it the immigration would slow to a trickle, if not stop entirely. It would cost us 30billion to provide enough border security to stop illegals....approximately what it costs us every 3 months in Iraq and I think it would be a much better return on our investment. Then I think we should do a full scale round up of current illegals and deport them immediately. They have no rights under our constitution to stand trial as they are not citizens of this country. Deport them and let them come back the legal way (if they are so deserving).

What I don't understand is that the proposed legislation is going to penalize illegal immigrants. But now there's all these legal immigrants and some people are just American-born hispanics marching around and waving Mexican flags.
When did this become about hispanics instead of illegal immigrants?

It's probably not too far off to say most illegals are hispanic anyways. For any other ethnicity to enter the country (besides canada) you'd have to come in by ship most likely. Either way, the only people you see really protesting are illegal hispanics. The worst waste of their day of protest is the fact that the Govnt didnt just swoop down with helicopters and the military and just gather up all the protesters and send them back.
The exploitation of the Constitution they use is even more agrivating as well. They come here illegally and know it, then exploit the "if born on US soil you're a US citizen" portion of the Constitution to gain benefits from OUR paychecks. That is bullshit plain and simple. If enough states ever came together to allow another batch of amendments i think that should be one loophole in the Const. that should be fixed.
I'll try find the article or whatever it was that I read about them getting more leniant punishment vs. a citizen commiting the same crime and add it up if i can find it.

I was told by my mexican coworkers that a Hispanic was all spanish-speaking native people. Mexican American = American Born, Mexican = Mexican Born, Puerto Rican = obvious, and from spain = hispanic as well. I dont really know, nor do i care that much lol. -

tjamz, I didn't mean to offend you with the bong comment, it was meant in a joking manner(damn internet botox). I agree that locking down our borders is necessary, I'm just not sure that shooting people dead or putting them in jail is the best way to do it. The major concern is I see no action by our Government to move in this direction. Why is no one looking out for our country's best interests?
