That, and for aftermarket repair shops to have work, otherwise I'd be without a job.

funny thing is, GM sells more vehicles over there. as in Asia.
we all have it backwards. toyota and honda we think are the most reliable vehicles. and over there it is the opposite.

Haha, but you need to take in to consideration the population difference between ASIA as a contenient, and America... There is also a large difference between China, Korea and Japan and the types of cars they purchase... Oh, and GM is only the third largest auto-manufacter, even after aquiring many of the pre-existing companies there...

Statistical breakdown of realibity of cars empirically proves that Toyota / Honda are more reliable then GM (wherever it may be)

If they make and sell such reliable cars over there, then why the hell do they sell such pieces of shit here??

Some of their engineering is just shit....yesterday i changed the oil in my dads Trailblazer, and the oil filter is straight up and down so when you pull it off hot oil has to flow over on your hand, and it is up in between some brackets so you have to grab it from directly below....terrible design if you ask me.

According to a couple recent studies, I know consumer reports was 1 of them, American built cars are as just about as reliable as Japanese built cars now. The gap favoring Japan used to be huge but now it's EXTREMELY small, possibly non-existant now.

Gee, is that why Toyota is eating up the global market share? Second to only GM. I think some people better do some more research.

In my opinion, GM for the longest time had no idea how to re-design cars. Nothing really improved from one generation to the next, it was all crap. It had such a large chunk of the market for such a long time it lost its ability to design cars people want to buy. Detroit is partly compensating today by going back to successes of the past, the new camaro/mustang/challenger for example. Sure they look great and will probably be good cars, but instead of being innovative and trying something new, they just used old designs and modernized them.

it was a special that CNN or MSNBC was running a couple nights ago. GM sells more vehicles over there, not sure exactly how they got them numbers.
funniest part about it was that the luxury vehicle they all wanted was a buick rendevous i believe. ( it was a buick SUV)

That's assuming a lot to say reliability is the reason Toyota is taking over. If Japanese automakers all had superior quality like was stated, wouldn't Honda/Mitsubishi/Subaru also be leaps and bounds ahead of Domestic producers as well? Toyota and Honda are really taking over now because of fuel efficiency more than anything. Another reason is the fact that they used to be high-quality vehicles compared to ford/gm/dodge so they stick with that line of though, even if it may have crumbled over time. Customers aren't as informed as you think they might be. Just because we all might take every detail and fact into consideration doesn't mean your average joe schmoe will, most will just buckle under salesman pressure and buy slightly uninformed.

So poke a hole in the bottom of the filter to let the oil drain out before you take it off.

All you have to do is let go of the filter before the oil gets on your hand and use a rag, haha :icon_scratch:

Well their are obviously ways to avoid getting oil on my hand, im just stating it is a bad design on it. Oh...and it isn't easy to get to either, so it is a bitch to get to, and it spills unless you take care of it some other way....

Reliabie inexpensive cars is the primary reason Toyota is taking over the world and will be the #1 car manufacturer by the end of this year/early next year. As for the second part of your statement, Honda is a big player in the auto game and Mitsubishi/Subaru are kinda niche market specialists. Not everyone wants an AWD car for economical reasons (gas mileage), etc.. so that turns some people off from Subaru. Mitsubishi currently only has a couple of cars that have a good following, and they are in some financial trouble. The funny thing is that Honda/Toyota/Subaru ALL have their engines in some of the domestic owned cars, hell Saab (a GM Company) basically reskinned a WRX creating what is often refered to as the Saabaru. How many domestic motors do you see under the hood of Japanese autos?

I think GM spent all of its time and resources on designing and marketing high profit trucks and suv's. When gas was cheap people couldn't buy enough of them. Their lack of investment in the cars is coming back to bhaunt them. Maybe they could get somebody to design a decent looking car? IMHO most of them are pretty ugly. At least chrysler has the idea with the new challenger. If it goes into production.
