BTW Kevin, I LOVE the AWD sticker on the side. Leave it on after the conversion, let people figure it out when they see you roll up with slicks only on the back 🙂

i can agree ihave a stage upgrade in my two speed Powerglide the shift is so smooth. somtimes though i do wish i had the TH350 for the that extra kick i second gear I would go with the powerglide

With a v8 or even a 6cyl, I would go with a powerglide. But with only a 2.0 4cyl. I think that a three speed would better suit his needs. Alot better chance of being in the powerband all be it one extra shift. But it's alot less to worry about than the 5 speed he's used to. And no more missed shifts.

As long as he gets the converter right, it will be fine with 2 speeds. My car never goes below 7000rpm the whole pass at the strip, so there is no worry about falling out of the powerband.

                                        First:

The main reason most draggers use the powerglide is because it's lightweight, and the fact it takes very little power to turn. The TH350 while being 3 speeds, takes a considerable more power to operate and weighs over 100lbs more. The TH400 is a VERY heavy transmission and takes even more power to turn.

Buschur uses the powerglide in both his old back half and tube car. He also runs it in his Conquest racers. Bill Walls, Aaron Poe, etc. Many of the Supra guys run a powerglide too. Venom, Titan, Paul Efantes, etc.

but the th400 is a very very strong transmission also. thats why its almost worth running it.
