0 to 300 km/h: 8.4 seconds, may be slightly more or less depending on the aerodynamic setup"top end in a pushrod is thrashy at best" must have read that on some import internet site, since you haven't driven a well done v8."
I have not driven a V8, but I have ridden in a friends GTP at full whack. And VTEC/VVT can sound quite nice when not hooked up to a fart can. In the end it depends on what your preference is.
"and say you just like a motor better because you know somehow that ohc motors are better even though its less powerful"
Depends on the application. How about a V12 Ferrari vs. a Camaro?

As I see it when you buy a Camaro, you get around 300hp from the factory. When you buy a CRX, you get a little over 100hp. Now look at what seanjohn has done for example (built LS/VTEC), and he is looking for high 12s all motor.
It's easy to have a fast car when it already came fast from the factory before you modded it. Now making a slow-from-the-factory 4-cyl fast, that's much more worthy of praise in my book.
To each their own! I'm done on the subject.
high 12s all motor are what ls1s do with very minor bolt ons.... so why do a whole motor swap/build to do it? I'm just saying why not have a car taht is factory fast and go faster yet, you could take a geo metro and make it faster but that would be stupid because its still slow. I guess i just like going fast instead of dumping money and time into a car with bad tq steer thats barely able to keep up with close to stock v8s. Lets praise you for making a slow car less slow and dealing with the tq steer and other bullshit along with it..
what v12 ferrrari are you talking about? try comparing a c6 zo6 vette performance with a 360 modena, along with the price tags..

show me one streetable mustang in the fm area that will beat jeremy's talon? he will run mid tens all day long.

U said 100 percent, check yo-self.I've yet to see a mid 10 second Talon that can run mid 10's all day long. Something breaks before too long and then it is back to the garage getting repaired again.
That's the thing with those little motors pushed far beyond the limit... reliability sucks. Hopefully you enjoy working on them a lot... because typically you will be doing much more of that then racing it. -

how about, wait till then before you use that car as an example.not that it matters, but i have been to 4 tracks and have lived in alot of different places and this is the only area that is mostly DSM lovers.
go elsewhere and you will see that the craze is not that popular. -

Hopefully you enjoy working on them a lot... because typically you will be doing much more of that then racing it.It is rarely the motor that is breaking. It is usually the drivetrain that breaks. In fact...the motors can handle more power than the 5.0's, since they like to split in half:icon_geek: Obviously with more displacement you can make more power output. I dunno, my car was putting out about 275hp/lt and about 225ft-lb/lt to the wheels, pretty impressive I would say. That would be like a 5.0 putting out 1375hp and 1125ft-lb to the wheels, stock block, just pistons and rods. PS that is with just cams and valve springs in the head too. I never had a problem with the engine breaking; just gears stripping, transfer case shafts snapping, etc. Now, you build a monster V8 and it can make tons of power, more displacement gives you a ton of opportunity. But, you can't ignore the fact that technology is pretty impressive. Just my 2 cents:icon_pirat: .

I have a lot more respect for awd and rwd imports then fwd which i think is a joke even though there are some pretty crazy fast fwd cars out there. Those are impressive numbers..

who said anything about the FM area? have you looked into xjheads project? I doubt he'll have any problems with dsm's if you want to bench race cars that aren't finished.. I would be turned off from this site if i had a fast mustang because it looks to be a bunch of ignorant rice loving kids. Not everyone in FM goes on fargostreet..

I've (well, ok, my father and I have) owned both muscle and import cars. Both have their advantages/disadvantages but what really got me interested in racing imports was my first time down the track in my WRX. I was lined up against an open header built 400cid trans am and all I had done was up/downpipes. The TA was so freaking loud I had to watch my tach to make sure I was still running and he took me out of the hole (1.8 60' vs 2.4 and his reaction was way better as well) I passed him by 330' and put a car length+ on him by the end of the 1/8 mile track. He got to the end and was PISSED at me, telling me to take my pile of shit ricemobile and go home and that NOS (his slang, not mine) was for cheaters. I reminded him I don't have a n2o kit on my car and invited him to inspect it...so there I was in the pits w/ a dozen or so musclecar guys looking through my car for something that wasn't there. I got hassled by that group of guys all weekend about being a cheater and whatnot and that the only "real" cars at the track were the V8's. At that point in time I decided I no longer wanted to be associated with the musclecar crowd and decided to do whatever necessary to come back the next race and be at least 2 classes faster than the prior race....I did and the rest is history.

I've never heard of an attitude like that in all the years I spent racing at BIR.

It was an 1/8 mile "track" in Harvey, ND. They used to race on their airport up until this year when the FAA made them stop. I'm not saying all musclecar guys are like that, but enough were to make me not want to associate with them and to strive to make my little 4 cylinder rice burner beat them (at that particular track) convincingly each time I raced. I kinda liked being the ONLY car in MOD ET that didn't trailer to and from the track...and with only 1/2 the cylinders and less than 1/2 the displacement. Again, I have nothing against V8 guys in general, it's just that in my particular experiences, the V8 guys have been the ones acting childish and talking smack about my car telling me how superior their technology was and why a little 4 cylinder had no business racing in any type of race (never mind the WRX has been used for many years in WRC)

A bunch of rice loving kids... meh. I hate rice. if you are reffereing to rice as any import, then i guess you are right, i love rice. said bes ton the back of v8killer "technology is the replacement for displacement" What happened at the harvey track to chuck is full proof of this. if a family sedan can be faster than a 2 door v8 muscle car, get better gas mileage, be cheaper on insurance, how can u argue it is not a better car? Don't give me the whole v8 rumble thing cuz i pretty sure chucks shit would knock you out of your chair.

You know something? You can make ANYTHING fast. It doesn't matter make, model, engine size, no of cylinders. It all boils down to how deep your pockets are and how willing you are to spend it. There's really no right or wrong car to use either. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can hate on the muscle cars or the ricers but that is just personal opinion. And opinions are like assholes, everyone got one and most of them stink.

I don't really see that happen at BIR, although there is always going to be someone that doesn't like imports just like this website is full of young people that trash on domestics.
I think as far as who "acts more childish" can go either direction. I run into plenty of younger people that rip on domestics all day long. I really could care less what they think though. It's what I like and I'm going to stick with it. It doesn't make me want to beat all imports just because "some" import drivers don't like domestics... I've made plenty of friends at BIR over the years that run imports. There's people that go too far with the import/domestic argument on both sides. I just enjoy a little friendly argument once in awhile but don't get too serious about it.
When I am lined up at the 1/4 I don't care what the hell I am lined up against... I want to beat the hell out of it either way.

Oh, I know that there are plenty of shit talking kids out there who think their Civic w/ a wing, bodykit and neons is the shit and will talk smack to muscle car owners all day long too. I'm just pointing out what my experiences were and why, ultimately, it is the redneck musclecar owners fault that I got as hooked as I did on imports. The worst part of the ordeal in Harvey is that this is the town I grew up in, the people who were pissed at me were people I knew most of my life. Things have changed a little since those first races, people have calmed down and now we kind of kid each other back and forth about being a ricer or a redneck.
And for the record, if I were to build a car SPECIFICALLY to go fast in the 1/4with a reasonable budget, I'd build a V8, probably a Pinto.
