I have had the same thing happen a three times. I have never bothered to fight it though. Twice times I have been pulled over, and I know I was going 45 mph in a 40. They told me both times I was going 53 or something up around there. I tested my cars speed with 5 other things, and it was right on. So I dont know how they got me up 7 mph over what I was doing. One of them was I was going 42 and they told me I was going 51. WTF?

Is that Fargo, or all of ND?In town, Fargo only. So if you were on the highway, they'll have different fine scale for ya, a lot cheaper than in town. Moorhead and WF both are different too. Fargo just changed this a few weeks ago to raise the awarness of all the speeding, and to help bring in more revenue.

The city officials said they needed to raise fines to help deter people from speeding and aggresive driving. Riiiight. I'm sure all the extra money coming in never crossed their minds. It's always worth it to show up to court, you can always hope the cop has something else going on and can't make it

don't even start about whining over high fines for speeding being about extra money for the city. YOU try having a job where you drive 30 hours a week or more around town (in addition to any driving you do on your own time) and then tell me that detering speeding isn't on the agenda.
i delivered pizza for 3 years, and in that time i saw more people driving incredibly fast in bad situations than i can remember. i think the people in fargo/moorhead need some serious driving lessons, it's horrible. in a typical day shift (10-8pm) i would see 3-10 people going through stop signs with no intention to stop and more people than it's worth thinking about that didn't even try to stop for a red light.
i am all for the actual enforcement of speeding and traffic control (lights, stop signs, etc) as long as it's done fairly. -

Out There,
I didn't want to come off as whining. I also delivered pizza (papa johns) for three years and I've seen my share of terrible drivers and even a couple of people who ran red lights and caused accidents. Also I did it at a second job and worked from six to two or three in the morning, and late at night, I'd say the worst drivers come out. I totally agree with you, I just think that doubling the fines was a bit excessive, even though I haven't got a ticket for a few years now. -
people may go through stop signs n shit here...but for the most part statistically we have some of the better drivers here due to our winters...if they get any snow whatsoever in say southern texas for some reason, all highways are closed, unless you can prove that you are from a state that has snowfall frequently and can therefore handle it...This just means that our drivers have a skill that others lack...However, people around here do need to pay more attention and use their skills...Also, I think there needs to be a law that makes it so only people 18 and up (and male :)) should be able to use their cell phones while driving...so many close calls with young ppl and women drivers it's rediculous...not to be sexist, but it's true

Bismarck.....
the worst.
No traffic but every driver is horrid. It is like they just drove off the damn farm. They do not pay attention to other drivers they just do as they please and get pissy when someone does not let them murge. And fuck a directional indicator, why use one of those....Rant...rant...rant.

And the remark isn't sexist at all, women drivers are THE WORST on the road when they are talking on their phones too.

Ehh, $100 for speeding in town doesn't seem that crazy to me. WAAAAAAY too many people drive like complete idiots around here.
