Usage of the word "stock"
-
That's right. Its a new month, so its time for a new grammar rant from me.
Lately I've been noticing a trend that is severely pissing me off. The word "stock". Now to me, if you say "stock", it means that you've done nothing to it. It came from the factory like that. NOT MODDED.
Yet I keep finding descriptions like this online:
"well is a d16a6 block with a 96 stock head just with springs and retainers and crower cam..."
How are springs, retainers, and a cam anywhere near stock? That's pretty fucking built if you ask me. Why even use the word?
I know there are millions more examples of this crap, but I just can't find any now.
I can't be the only one who is upset with the murder of the definition of "stock".

I think in that situation it just means his head is stock i.e. not ported or worked.
My LS1 has stock heads but I added new valve springs, tit retainers, and chromoly pushrods. It gained me nothing but a lighter wallet and my valvetrain is lighter. My heads are still at "stock performance". The valvetrain is just able to take more abuse, it's just ready for a bigger cam.
But I agree that if you say your car is "stock" it should mean just that. It should be the way it came from the factory, right down to the paper filter.

I only consider something not stock if it has stuff done to the motor..

but every1 has their own opinions of what is considered stock. -
