I just realized...

Many of us are becoming our parents when it comes to cars...Look at us. Our EF's will start to be collector's items in the year 2013...My CRX will become a collector's in 2014...only 7-8 years away guys...and the thing is, these will be (hondas) the cars that we enjoy doing stuff to the rest of our lives. so much like how our parents like having their 60's-70's ride, we like having our 80's-90's ride...to think...in 7 years a nice CRX can have collector's plates...that's just wierd...I'm owning and modding a collector's item...makes ya feel kinda old

yeah plus...you dont even see collector plates on 70's cars.....mostly like 30s-50's

I've seen plenty of collectors plates on 70's-80's vehicles. Anywhere from a 1981 Monte Carlo to a 1973 Datsun 280Z to a 1979 RX7.Well then i stand corrected....i just dont think it is very common.

I would have collector plates on my charger but ND has some real stupid rules to get them. Basically you have to sign a waiver thing saying you only drive to and from car shows, to or from places of repair, or to and from places of storage.
so as far as I'm concerned thats no deal. I drive my stuff, and im not gonna only drive to car shows.

But you never see that enforced. I dont know if police even know the rules regarding collector plates. I know people that drive their "collector" vehicles all over. One deputy here has a 48 Chevy pickup that he drives all over, even for hunting, and mustangs, and he has collector plates on.
And while technically they will be "collector" vehicles by ND state standards, I doubt they will have any real following. Even late 70s, early 80s vehicles, is there any real following for a lot of them? Do you think anyone will pay $3000 for a Monte Carlo SS shell, like they do for a '69 Camaro or old Model A? Even 70s and 80s Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, etc, arent popular at all.
And it seems to me, that my parent's generation, they arent going out and buying the car they actually had as a youth. If they did that my mom would have a 75 GMC pickup right now, or my dad would have a station wagon. No they go out and buy Mustangs and Jeeps.
So dont you think the import generation would go out and buy the cars they couldnt have when they were young? NSX, Corvette, Viper, BMW, Mercedes, etc, etc.

When I say collectors item, i mean that the vehicle is 25 years old, period. It's weird how just a few years ago my dad's 78 el camino got plates (collectors)...now it's nearly time for my gen. of cars to be eligible to get plates...

I would lose respect if someone put a collector plate on a civic/honda. Hell my 79 ambulance is more collectable then a honda.

if i ever see a 94 pontiac grand am with collector plates on it will shit all over it, same goes for rusted out 89 crx with a toucan liscence plate frame and an apc windshield banner.
a mass produced, easily found/affordable, econo box is not a collector just because its old...
