Ebay payment question
-
Well, I threw my bike on ebay and it sold with Buy It Now. I was pumped. I got an email from the guy earlier before he bought it asking about condition, general info, etc. Seemed like a normal buyer. I woke up this morning to find out that the bike had sold on ebay, and I have an awaiting email. He is from London, UK. Ok, right there I was skeptacle. But he had specific instrucitons in his email of how he is sending me payment via cashiers check. The bike sold for the Buy It Now of $2000 and he is sending me $4200. $2200 is for the shipping charges that I have to wire transfer via Western Union to the shipping company in order to give them permission to come pick up the bike. Now...here are my questions. First of all, this seems kinda fishy, and I'm definately not shipping anything till i get that cashiers check and it clears...but...a person can still do a stop payment on a casiers check, after it clears after so many days or something, i'm still checking into that. Besides obviously Paypal, would there be an easier and safer method of me getting his money without him being able to take it back? Maybe wire transfer through Western Union? Every other cashiers check I have gotten I have just cashed, and thats the end of it. But i recently found out, a person CAN do stop payment on it, even after you've cashed it, but not sure how long after cashing they can do it. If anybody has had experience with cashiers checks and buyers overseas, let me know.

Ya its a scam, the cashiers check is fake. He'll send you a good fake and the bank will still cash it and it will take them a few week to find out it isn't real an then they take the money back from you, so just try to resell it again. This happens all the time wil people trying to sell cars and stuff.

I was kind of leaning towards the idea that it was a scam. he did however include the address and telephone number of the shipping company, and his address and telephone number. he does however have 0 feedback on ebay, which also scares me. This guy used the buy it now option, and if it was a fake, then i'm screwed out of the auction fees if I have to relist it! Should I just not put a buy it now price on next time to eliminate this hassle? I have not heard back from the buyer, but i'm expecting the worst!

Well, after doing some more research, I am fairly certain this is a scam. His feedback is 0. he is sending me excess money, which is a sure sign of fraud. he is no longer answering my emails, and his phone number he sent me does not work. i am so sick of fraud on ebay! I will have to file a complaint with ebay now to get my money back for the auction fees. I am thinking I will NOT do a buy it now option when I relist it, as they seem to target those auctions. I also wont agree to sell to anybody beside in the US. Another thing...besides getting hard cash upon pickup, what if somebody DID need this thing shipped or just didn't want to pay with cash? What is a good method of receiving payment? I have heard that even if being paid through paypal, they can take their money back. Is there truth to this?

just put a reserve price on it. Specify US selling only. Try and make them contact you first before you will accept payment too. Paypal is also another payment only method that can help but can be a hassle for the buyer to try and get their money back. I know, Ive ran into it 2 times with bad sellers. Goodluck on it.

that happened to me a couple years back when trying to sell my eclipse, i got a couple $15,000 checks at my house still....all you gotta do is bring the check to the bank, have them call the bank that the check came from and they well tell you if its real or not....most of the time the the moeny order or check is real...but have been stolen or something, this stuff happens all the time on ebay.
-
will the bank tell you if the particular cashiers check was stolen, or will they just say that is a legit/not legit cashiers check? If this guy does send all that money, i'll just take it to my bank, where they know me personally, and check to see if its legit or not. i'm not holding my breath, thats for sure!

and people wonder why I never buy/sell on ebay and never send money via paypal....got burned once, never again.

UPDATE: I just got an email from ebay stating they banned this member from Ebay and I got about half of my auction fees back and I am free to relist the item within 30 days. So...moral of the story? EUROPEANS SUCK!!! No, not really the moral, but it is true..haha. Sellers and buyers alike, do your research and seriously use the Ebay Forum, it was a lifesaver for me.

I can't believe anyone falls for these, i have a friend who told me about it the first time i had ever heard of one and i told him not to do it cuz it was a scam, sure enough he lost like $2500. I am very skeptical about anything out of the ordinary but i still can't believe anyone falls for these.
