Dave, I listen to Rush every day...and when Drudge had it on his website that this was a "joke or prank" gone too far, Rush talked about it for about 45 minutes straight.

If you can, get the day that this was to have went on and I'll listen to it again. It may be possible that he said those words, but as you know if you listen to Rush, he "illustrates absurdity by being absurd" regularly. To someone who just pulls a soundclip out of a 3hr show and then state that it is actually Rush's view is just incorrect.

I can't image why you'd listen to Rush, I can barely listen to him most days lately.

I'll try and figure out what day that was, and yes, I know he illustrates absurdity by being absurd....he was serious on this one from what I could tell. I listen to him because I think in order to be fair about my judgements and opinions I need to listen to both sides. So its News & Views w/ Joel Heitkamp in the morning for local politics (can't stand the idiot on WDAY); Rush from 11:00 to 2:00; and then Schulz from 2:00 to 5:00.

I believe it was October 5th btw as that was the day that this drudge report was dated.

Damn Chuck, you are touching on so many topics I don't know where to begin. 1. Rush did not defend Foley. I have his show every day on MP3 (I can't get radio reception in our office) so if you wish to listen through all the audio since then and try to find where he defended him you are welcome to it. I'd have to believe that you don't listen to Rush, but just quote what is posted on some blogs or forums somewhere? 2. O'Reilly calls himself a traditionalist, I'd say in general that would align him more to the right than the left, but he does have liberal views on several topics (I disagree with him on those) :p. But what I really like about O'reilly is that he is honest, and he back up his positions with facts. He actually makes me think and consider the liberal views he has. And, if he does make a mistake, he owns up to it right away. 3. I'd have to disagree that the two parties have petty differences. I think in general there are major disagreements about the direction the country should be going. The only thing petty is the way that they act toward each other, rather than having reasoned debate, they attack each other to try to make themselves look good. Both parties are guilty of this, altho the left is far worse in my opinion. 4. Shit... is anyone still reading this? 5. Endgame for Iraq - I'm not sure if I follow what your endgame is Chuck, it seems to me it's "have talks with terrorists". Any uprising there is not sponsored or supported by their government, they are just a band of hoodlums out there shooting our guys because they don't like the US and don't want us there trying to stabilize the area. IMO they are no different than any other terrorist there. 6. What would my endgame be for the area? I don't claim to be a politician or a military strategist, so bear with me. :icon_geek: First, start a curfew to get people off the streets (after work if they can prove that they have a job). Second, anyone found with a gun or explosives is instantly killed, no screwing around. Then, If I were president I would sit down with all the military commanders in the area and get their input on how we can crush the insurgents, then have the watermelon sized cajones to let the military do what they do best and crush them, and worry about the political ramifications later. Enough of the pussyfooting around that we have been doing due to political reasons. Lets win and be done with it. After that you pull out a large portion of the troops, leaving a smaller group to help the Iraqi police/army get control of things. But leave no doubt that if things deteriorate again, the US will come back to mop them around the floor again. 6. Flat tax - I agree on the flat tax being the way to go, but I see it slightly differently than you. Instead of the tax being a percentage, it should be a flat dollar amount. That way we all pay the same tax. You pay the same as I do, the same as Matt does, the same as Kirk, etc. Say it's $3k a year.. we all pay the same. Nothing is more fair than that. 7. Is anyone still reading this? 8. Now for the most important issue of our time, immigration. I hope that we agree on this one, that we need a fence on the Mexican border to stop illegal immigration (and a large amount of drug smuggling) instantly, and we need to have the laws that are on the books now obeyed, which will not allow the illegals that are already here to work or collect benefits from our country. This will force them to basically head back over ther border (which they should freely be allowed to pass) where they can apply for citizenship the legal way. We have more immigrants (legal and illegal) in our country right now that we have taken into the country over the last 300+ years. The legal immigrants that are here need time to assimilate into our country, I would think that we would be wise to stop immigration completely for a period of time to allow that to happen.

Wow, see what you get when I just have time to reply once a day.

        1. already been covered by me.
        2. Like I said, O'Reilly is a right leaning version of myself
        3. I should have been more clear, there is petty bickering amongst them, however there are major differences in opinion. Much like I thought that the Judicial nominees from last year deserved an up/down vote on the floor, I think the republicans owe it to the country to give Democratic sponsored bills an opportunity for an up/down as well instead of killing them in committees
        4. Who knows?
        5. We both agree the Sunni's are Iraqi's, right? Well not all of them agree with whats going on, so they are attacking a force that they see as an occupier. Since they are already a part of the Iraqi Gov't why can't we sit down with them and discuss what they want to happen and explain why it has been happening different ways, it only makes sense to have them on our side (and the side of the rest of the Iraqi's). The Sunni's have been asking for this meeting so why not do it? It sounds like they just want to be part of the solution instead of the problem to me, but by snubbing them, we are forcing them to be a problem (thinking in the minds of a desperate people here, not necessarily what you or I might do if the same situation was placed upon us)
        6. I don't think this country can be run on $3000/person. I like the concept, its the reality of it that causes me to dismiss this idea.
        7. Maybe?
        8. Couldn't agree more. Also, I say charge anyone entering illegally as a terror suspect since they really are trying to destroy our economy and are a major drain on society. If they don't stop running when/if they get through the fence and we spot them, then shoot them. Period. End of story. Everything you stated in #8 is dead on how I feel as well.

I would recommend not listening to Rush and start listening to O'reilly. Rush is just a republican cheerleader like Ed is to the Dems. O'reilly actually has substance and thought. I've never heard Joel Heitkamps show (didn't even know he had one), but from growing up with him and his relatives I'd guess that I'd be severly let down listening to it.

If you need audio from Rush I am a Rush 24/7 subscriber and can grab the back dated mp3s if you really want. I think one of the most enjoyable talk shows on air for political content is Sean Hannity in the afternoon.

I tried to listen to Ed Schultz a time or two and he has gone completely off of his rocker. It is also hard to take him serious knowing he was a hard core republican and just happened to change his views about the time a radio offer was coming.

I like Rush, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, O'Reily and Glen Beck. I've tried to listen to Ed Schultz, but just the way he talks and delivers his message really turns me off...seems like he is whining all the time. You have to take Rush for Rush. Sean has been very critical of the Bush administration on a variety of things. Michael Savage really is the voice inside of me that says everything out loud. 🙂 I don't agree with his religous views though. O'Reily is good, but sometimes it sounds like he agrees with everyone. Glen Beck is fun to listen to and has some really good points. For good financial advice listen to Dave Ramsey on 1660 at 7 or 8pm.

              Rush- 770 from 11-2:00-770
              Sean- 2:00 to 5:00-970
              O'Reily- 11:00-1:00-1660
              Glen Beck-8:00am-11:00-1660
Michael Savage- 9:00pm-?(I'm usually in bed)-1660
              Ed Schultz-2:00-5:00 pm -1660

              Enjoy!!

I consider myself to be liberal, but I still enjoy listening to Hannity. Most of the time he seems to be pretty fair, while still being a right winger. And like Matt said, he has been critical of the Bush administration when it has been needed, which actually makes it more enjoyable to listen to him because it doesn't seem like he is just feeding you the right wing mumbo jumbo without any thought.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Whats weird is I prefer Rush 10000% more than Hannity, something about him just makes me want to puke. Schultz didn't really switch sides overnight, there was a gradual progression from right to left and he is still conservative in some of his views (Guns and abortion being the big 2), and for that matter he was considering himself a democrat for at least 3 years before getting his national show (Blame his wife Wendy for his switch.) I'll have to try O'Reilly instead of Rush for a couple weeks, just to get a better feel for him.

I was kinda surprised to see Ed Schultz on Matts play-list, though i'm sure its more of a filler for when he's normally listening to Hannity (if he listens to him at all...)

as for the commentary, here's at least part of what Rush said...I'll do more digging

Back in these days you could call Sears and order a refrigerator on the phone. I had a teacher living up the street and it was the biggest thrill in the world to just call and order a refrigerator and watch Sears deliver it to an unsuspecting teacher and his wife, and far stranger things than that. But we always picked out adults that we just thought were odd or weird, and it would be fun to make fun of them, and I don’t think kids today are any different…

But you know as well as I do that young kids make fun of gay people. They make fun of the way they talk; they make fun of the way some of them walk and so forth. Who knows what the word around town about fellow Foley was. Who knows? We all know that young people gay bash. Young people do a lot of stuff. They don’t have the maturity to understand this kind of stuff…

I tell you, folks, you’ve got this page out there; you probably have a bunch of pages laughing and making fun of Foley and the way he comes on to them, and he’s gay and so forth, so they egg him on and so forth….

I prefer Hannity vs Rush. The biggest complaint I've got towards Hannity is his support for Ann Coulter. I listened to her for about 30 seconds during an interview on some other TV show and gave up (something about claiming Clinton's actions made him literally gay).

I'm also a fan of Scott Hennen (actually going to go visit this week I believe).

You can't deny the fact that most...hell, this is a random stat but i'd be willing to bet 90% of the sugar beet farmers around here are multi millionaires. Look at their houses, farms, equipment, etc...they're NOT hurting by any means. I'd like to see where you got that 40-55k per year number too as I want to know if that includes the money they get after being subsidized.

Their capital may be worth millions but the value of capital does not pay the bills. If they sold off all of their equiptment they would have some cash but no way to make more.

Don't forget that if they have to pay taxes on their land, pay off the machinery that still has a lien on it, etc. Its not that simple man.

It's also not that simple that they earn 40-55K a year. They're not making that much and still paying taxes on their land/equipment/house and feeding the family and..and..and.. You get what i'm saying? What i'm trying to say is obviously the way they're living is the government is giving them (number is out of my ass here mind you) an extra 100,000 a year to live on while they only have 40,000 in bills, in essence just giving them 60,000 they DONT need to live off of. I'm not saying we shouldn't subsidize them, i'm just saying they're getting way more than they need.

If anything we should be helping out corn growers more as corn does more for the country than just provide revenue via sugar. At least corn can be eaten, used as cattle feed, as well as an alternate fuel source. Far more important than sugar IMO.

You realize that most of the people have not paid off their equipment or land yet either right? Just because you have $2,000,000 in equipment, doesn't mean you can sell it for $2,000,000 profit if you still owe $1.5 million.
