When I see something like this I can only think to myself **"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" **The US of A has the very finest, leading edge healthcare there is. We are a little behind in getting some of the newer drugs, but thats just because the FDA is so strict on new stuff, trying to made sure everything is 100% safe before they allow it to the public. Not saying I agree with them, just stating a fact.

When I see something like this I can only think to myself "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" I was speaking of the lack of aid provided by our federal govt' helping people in need, or lack there of. Obviously we have more than enough "leading edge healthcare" sometimes more than enough.
For instance, its safe to say pharmaceutical reps are the devil. Without them Doctors would not push the next pill down our throat every time one comes out. Funny how about a year and half ago all of the sudden every one had acid reflux when no one had ever even heard of it before. The point I am getting at is the the "newer drugs" and older for that matter are a joke, and often used when not necessary. Look at the increase in the use, and number of different anti-depressants that plague everyday life for so many people just numbing the problem instead of getting to the source of it.
Lastly "natural" cures which are not even considered as they can not be trademarked could lead to a cure for cancer, aids, hepatitis or others. Reasoning is you cannot copyright, something that is classified as a natural supplement, so in other words, Doctors, The Devil (pharm reps), and pharmacies in general cannot make any money off them. So in other words, good job and you can thank DuPont for starting the trend in the mid 1930's when they assisted with the illegalization of the hemp plant. I am done on this subject as I could ramble on for pages about it.

"Healthcare" has nothing to do with the government? The issue of universal healthcare has been a major topic of late, and it definately involves the government. In regard to the rest of the developed world we have a much higher percentage of people without healthcare insurance, and that leads me to the conclusion that we have a healthcare problem.

So this was just some phrase that has nothing to do with what you meant? "Healthcare" is not Government aid or whatever else you were talking about.I could go back and edit it for "you" if you would like?
It may help spare your confusion about what I was getting at... although I already took the time to highlight in another post a more detailed description of my what I was trying to get at...:icon_scratch:

Yes, there are people who think that the government should pay for everyone's healthcare. Those people have twisted the word so that people think of insurance when you hear the word healthcare. But healthcare has nothing to do with the government or insurance. Healthcare is the practice of maintaining your health, which we in the USA have the finest facilities and people in the world for doing so. To say that healthcare in our country is non existant is just silly. We have the best.

Long thread, but overall I'm pleased, this board aparently is mildly left leaning, which makes me happy.
And dude with the gun in your avatar, I voted for kerry in the last election because he wasn't bush. I don't know exactly what he said about the "troops" but if they took offense at what he said, they are a bunch of pussies. If they are still wondering why they are over there, but know it's not because of what kerry said, then maybe they should ask more questions. Why are they there? Can they leave if they choose? I know I can quit my job when I feel like it. Can they quit theirs? Probably not.

The quality of something has nothing to do with it's cost. If you said that Hardee's has the best burgers in the world, but some guy in Chicago can't afford a Hardee's burger, therefore the Hardee's burger isn't the best burger in the world any longer? McDonalds is best because the guy in Chicago can afford it? If you want the best quality healthcare, you got it right here in the USA.
rant on
Now off on a tangent, as you guys seem to think that the government should be paying for, or at least partially paying for peoples healthcare? Everyone needs to get good healthcare right, so the government should be providing or paying for it? You could also say that everyone needs nutritious food also, maybe the government should supply or pay for everyone's food? Everyone needs shelter right, maybe the government should supply or pay for everyone's house? Where do you stop? This "universal healthcare" crap is just another step on the slippery slope to more socialism. Everything that the government gets it's fingers into turns to shit, the least amount of things they can F up the better. Whatever happened to working hard and paying your own way in life? There are catastrophic insurance plans that are very cheap, pay for the rest as you go. There are already plenty of programs set up to help the disabled or mentally challenged people, etc.
The one thing that the government could/should do is to reduce or eliminate the rediculous level of lawsuits that doctors, hospitals and every other individual or business can get nailed with. If someone falls down on your front step and gets hurt, and a judge says that you have to pay that person $1 million dollars, wtf is that. Everytime a hospital or doctor, etc has to pay out a huge settlement, who do you suppose has to pay for it? We pay for it the next time we go for a checkup, etc.
rant off

You can not say that we have the best healthcare in the world when access is limited to only those who can afford it. -
Yes, the cost of healthcare is high, no doubt about it. But lets not socialize it. We would be much better off figuring out why it's so expensive in relation to other necessities, and attacking the problem that way. Relieving the legal burden would be a great start.

exactly. im not saying we should have free heathcare or the government should pay for it. i just think the government should do something about it being so high. its getting way out of hand. i personally cant afford heath insurance and if i were to get sick i wouldnt be able to afford to go to the doctor either. last time i went to the doctor for an infection and they said they couldnt do anything and sent me home. i got a bill a week later for $130 for a visit that was literally less than 5 minutes long.

QFT
As to why it is high, there are 4 reasons
- Everyone is afraid of getting sued, healthcare providers especially.
- Prescription drug ads. Ever since restriction was taken off pharmaceutical ads in the 80's, healthcare costs have SKYROCKETED because people demand that their doctors prescribe the drugs, even if they don't really need them (worked in a clinic for 2 years, saw this happen DAILY with Viagra and other drugs.) Sop drug advertising and you will stop skyrocketing prices
- Doctors get drugs pushed on them from pharmaceuticals and therefore give out "samples" to people
- Uninsured people overburden the OR/ER's and the cost has to be absorbed by someone, but that someone SHOULD NOT BE THE US TAXPAYER!!!!
What I think is absolutely retarded is that drugs sell for substantially less in Canada than they do here. Same drug, same packaging (add a little french dosage instructions), 2-3 times the cost.

well the fact that right away he said that he would not apologize tells me that he meant what he said...... and then finnaly apologized on his website..... he must be a real small man if he does that.....He stated it publicly as well, I forget the talk show/news conference/whatever, but it was a public statement as well.

Come on now Chuck, this is as twisted as I've seen you post. LOL You are paying higher taxes because you are making more money than you ever have. Without GWB's tax cuts you would have been taxed more. Period.:icon_rr:
I'm talking proportionally here, not total withheld. And no, this is not the most I have ever made annually Dave.

Its just the fact that he said he would not appologize right away that bugs me..... and im guessing other people from his party made him (my opinion).... just for the fact if he ever planned on running for president again.... That would not be a good mark on his record.....

Because Bush has never said anything stupid that he never apologized for? How about "Terrorists never stop thinking of ways to harm our country, and neither do we" or "We've got a lot of rebuilding to do. First, we're going to save lives and stabilize the situation. And then we're going to help these communities rebuild. The good news is -- and it's hard for some to see it now -- that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- he's lost his entire house -- there's going to be a fantastic house. And I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch." or "You work three jobs? … Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that."
