I think when people hit that crossover point, its easier to say **** kicked in, than Damn, my cams just changed over to a much more aggressive profile.Part of what you're missing is that most variable valve timing systems don't have a "cross over point". The reason that **** is very pronounced is because it is a dual-cam-profile system - you're either on the hot cam or the cold cam. I don't know if more modern **** systems do cam phasing in addition to the profile-change over (i don't think early **** did that but i'm frankly not an expert or a honda historian
)With a VANOS system, and probably most cam phasing systems, you won't feel any sort of "step function" at all - the motor will just be making more torque than a non-adjustable engine with that cam grind would be at the same RPM and load.

I think that claim requires some qualification

I've yet to drive a turbo car that replicates the throttle response and dynamic characteristics of a well built NA engine. Of course, i haven't driven that many turbo cars.. a bpu supra, an S12, a probe.. various audis..
Thankfully, as turbo systems continue to evolve, the usual characteristic differences between them and tuned NA systems continue to get smaller, so hopefully soon one will not generally have to choose between the big power of a turbo system vs the steady state heat, repeatability, and responsiveness of NA systems.

What would you call it if there was no change over ...

HAHHA wannabe.....seems like it fits... i tell you what, not only would i not race nicks car on the street, i am not sure i wanna ride in it on the highway ever again. You seriously have no fuckin clue. I have read this whole tread, and all i see is you not gettin the point here. And as far as that last video, that depicts a honda going from "Super Economy Mode" to "Regular Economy". I have seen NA LS Motors ass rape **** Motors. Why, cuz fuckin **** has nothing to do with the performance of the car. All you are doing with **** is waiting longer for what little extra power you may recieve. Nicks car never hits crossover cuz it is always on the big lobes.

so nicks cars is fast cuz its always in **********!?!?

Ok, so your telling me that an LS motor has more potential than say an ITR motor? ask any NA honda guy and see what they say... -
Why would anyone ever boost/buiild ITRs or GSRS or B16s if LS's were sooooo much better? they are half the price of a b16 and 1/8 the price of an ITR motor? I suppose a b16 civic Could ass rape a car with a 2JZ, but that doesnt mean a b16 is a better motor than it...

I'd put an LS motor in a hatchback before a b16 any day of the week.
I suppose you think the fast all motor guys still use **** too haha.
