Miata head gasket

Wondering if anyone knew how difficult replacing a headgasket on 94 miata 1.8, I've never worked on ohc and this is a dohc, also wondering what shops in fargo would be good to make sure the head isn't warped, a guy I work with overheated the engine, put in a new radiator, it now runs fine but uses coolant if this isn't too difficult I was gonna do it for him any info would be great

buy a repair book or factory service manual. i havent worked on a miata before, but from my experience the hardest part of taking the head off was making sure you do everything in the proper order, like remove/install/torque.\
as far as checking the head, mazda, or any off the engine builders in town should be able to do it

They are easy. Go to www.miata.net that is full of info and will be an easy fix. The nice thing is that it is not an interference engine so it wont very likely bend valves. But I would do the timing belt and water pump while your in that far. Speaking from experience. Oh, and a Haynes manual is gonna be your best friend.

I mentioned to the guy we should do a compression test, but it is using coolant pretty fast(half a gallon every hundred miles or so) it's not leaking externally and it was overheated for an extended period of time, plus I like tearing stuff apart....lol I just got done replacing a head off of a dodge minivan due to a horrible engineering defect, and dsm is off the hook on this one it wasn't the 3.0 it was the 3.8 which is also not mopar, it is made by cummins which I thought was odd since it wasn't a diesel, but their plant in mexico makes gas engines
