Trucks=stupid?
-
(post editied to be less obnoxious)
-
i don't really understand why people lower trucks, because the overwhelming majority of trucks are not performance vehicles, and lowering them seems to undermine their utility functions
-
i dislike trucks with loud exhausts for similar reasons - very few trucks are high performance vehicles, so the loud can is more about being obnoxious than any real benefit, IMO. Certainly trucks are not unique in this -- most harley's and some civics are also way louder than they need to be.
I tend to think of trucks only as work/utility vehicles.. and that they are generally inferior to cars for getting around town, any sort of performance driving, etc. I couldn't imagine commuting in a truck but lots of people seem to do it.
Hopefully this is worded in a way that it is clear that i am making generalizations that allow for people to be exceptional cases

I didn't mean all pictured were diesels, I meant some. Tardo...

Lifted trucks don't bother me. Lowered trucks.. that's a special kind of ghetto that I never would have imagined could exist. Lowered trucks are like the trifecta of dipshitness... none of the advantages of a car... none of the advantages of a truck. Good job, ass clown.
and what exactly is your point?? who do you think got the major customizing bug started. it started with small trucks out on the west coast. we were just a predecessor to your tuner cars. it takes a special breed to drive a lowered truck. so i say to you specifically, what advantage over my mini does your tuner have? i can perform the same mods, put the same tires, same stereo, same lights, same body kits. whats your advantage??

i don't know what the history of west coast customizing was, but it's not frankly relevant. trucks are inferior to cars except for their harsh-climate (i.e. unimproved road / land) abilities and cargo/carrying capacity.
Lowering a truck removes both of those advantages, leaving you only with all of the disadvantages trucks have w.r.t. cars.
it takes a special breed to drive a lowered truck.
Looks like we agree. We probably disagree on what breed that is, exactly

well, i don't quite know what a "tuner" is, but i doubt that i have one. In any case, i'll just replace "tuner" with "car" and take it from there
my vehice will have
- lower center of gravity
- better weight distribution
- better rear suspension design
- probably a better front suspension design
- stiffer chassis
- better drag coefficient
When I see a lowered pickup successfully competing in SCCA national events along side sedans and coupes, I'll consider changing my opinion.
(fwiw: I'm aware that there are "truck races". That's different than going head to head with cars under the same power / tire rules)

so how does lowering a truck take away from its cargo/carrying capacity?.... its lower... so what, you cant put shit in the back any more?.... you cant tow a trailer?.... um i think not.... i for one do not car if a truck is lowered or raised..... and if done right, lowered trucks can handle better than most sports cars.... you just seem to be talking out your ass..... why dont you bash lowered trucks when you have done some more research... until then shut up, you dont know what you are talking about.....
im sorry in i have singled you out.... but it just pisses me off when people THINK they know what they are talking about... dont take it personaly... but you are wrong.....

/goodnightThe springs and rear suspension of a truck have a fair bit to do with its carrying capacity, do they not? Changing the ride height (and suspension travel) has a defacto effect on the load capacity.
what research do you suggest i do? what objective data do you have to backup your surprising claim that "done right, a lowered truck will outhandle most sports cars"? Where are all of the lightly modified trucks tearing up racetracks in the US? You should inform all those stupid 911 drivers that they'd be better off with a lowered pickup, instead of using a normal height pickup to tow their race cars

You seem to be emotionally disagreeing with me. While my original post is mostly a judgemental criticism, the specific deficiencies i listed later still stand - if you want to suggest that I'm wrong on any of them, please name them and then make reasonable arguments..

+1
Thrash: Who really gives a rats ass? Seriously. Let him do his thing you do yours and appreciate the work that he has done to his TRUCK and coexist peacefully. All your doing is getting people to hate you cause your being a bitch about something little. How many people do you see carrying 2 tons worth of dirt in there mini truck? They aren't made to do the work of a bigger truck. SO, im gonna guess that the guys who do mini trucks really don't care about not being able to haul ass loads of shit.

Good job, ass clown.I'm guessing you've never driven or rode in a lowered dually pulling a trailer. There is nothing wrong, redneck or hillbilly about spending money to have a nice ride. There are other reasons to lower a truck especially 2wd, mainly if that's what a person wants. If you consider somebody with diferent opinions than yours, an ass clown, then maybe your just too good for guys in that crowd.:icon_thumright:

Funny the similarities, isn't it?

- True True, but anyways, To each his own. Each vehicle type "lifted, lowered, tuner, etc" will have its fag members. THeres nothing you can do about it. I have friends that fall into each catagory and they're all pretty cool guys. Its just the few assclowns that give the rest a bad name.

racing is another subject. there is no class particular to trucks, but they do compete at national eventes. scca syas there was a guy with a toyota pickup that qualifies in 2 classes. as far as racing against 911s, i was at the PCA event last month and with my little truck, was putting down times equivalent to those of the porsche guys. and for me to compete at a higher level, all i need to do is change my tire setup and i can compete.

Me also. I have a lifted SUV with exhaust and a ricer. That means that I have the best of both worlds!
