Reminds me of high school FFA guys talking about throw'n a threefiddy in damn near anything. I guess I don't get it. Personally the reason I like the RX7 is because it's a very unique car, with a unique engine. There are plenty of other cars to toss another engine in, why not ruin one of those? Im sure theres a few datsuns out there just begging for it. Leave the rx7 alone 🙂

isnt there a really high rebuild rate on the rotary motors? like when the low coolant light comes on you pretty much f'ed? seems like a LS1 swap would be a very reliable and badass replacement...maybe not as cost effective thou

There is someone on this forum that is planning a 383 swap into a 2nd Gen RX7 if memory serves correct (I'm not naming names, I'll let him tell you who he is if he wants the info out there). I used to be opposed to this idea, but it is actually a very cost effect & reliable solution for those looking to make serious power reliably from an RX7

Reliability... Power... Almost the same weight distribution...

What's not to like about it?

I'd sell my rx7 before it ever got a v8 in it.

I've heard a lot of RX-7 owners say that, but eventually change their minds.

I am sure it all depends on if they have a show car or want to make power.

you can do both with the ls1 in it...i think the ls1 looks better in it than a rotary, and it works better too 🙂

wouldnt you get more points as a show car for having a motor swap? LOL

I would leave the rotary in a rx7..... until it blows up, and then put a ls1 in it.

Both can make power. Isn't there a decently powerful rotary on this board:icon_scratch:

Whatever. I'd throw a B18C1 in there and be done with it.

there are a few around that are/will be making some power shortly. I can appreciate the idea of the ls1, and the power/torque potential, but for me to see an rx7, and then hear a v8 when it revs completely ruins it for me. part of what makes it so rare is the rotary. it's the same thing as putting an rb26dett into a mustang that so many people think is dumb as hell.

I think they rb27TT swap is dumb because it was a classic car, and the motor that comes in it would probably be cheaper to build and get the same power.

I personally bought an rx7 because of the rotary engine, even tho it might not have the power a v8 has it can still hold its own and can be made to be powerful and reliable as well. As far as rebuilds go mine had about 150,000 miles on it before it was time for a rebuild. So far i've spent about 400 on it, but thats doing it myself. I would also sell mine before dropping in a v8. If i was after more power then a 20B engine (3 rotor) would be the swap i'd consider.

and that's fine. everyone deserves their own opinion. i agree the rotary motors are not the most reliable platform, but alot of it has to do with it's owner. they can be much more reliable with the right mods, and some special attention. the rotary motor can handle alot of power, and they can be rebuilt/ported for fairly cheap, especially if you have the knowledge to do your own work. I know everyone wants to jump on the hate the rotary bandwagon, but lets be honest outside of the horror stories you've heard, there are many people out there who run their rotaries everyday just fine. it's when people jump into modifying without doing research on what is safe, and what could be handled that they get in trouble.
