Why do people do this?
-
The topic was why do people do this not how retarded are these guys for thinking FWD US cars can go fast. There are some damn good reasons to buy one of those cars, the Grand Prix in particular. They ride nice, are super reliable, can fit four or five adults comfortably along with their shit, and still rip off some 14 second passes for pretty cheap. Granted they are not the best the US has to offer in terms of build quality, i.e. lots of plastic on the interior, but at least it has an interior. Every civic I have ever been in has a dash, seats, carpet, and thats it, the shifter comes out of the floor. I think we can all agree that both cars are reliable, and some of the other cars mentioned are pretty good as well, it really comes down to what you want. I will defend the Grand Prix to the end, very nice cars that are decently sporty and cheap as well as reliable. Oh and BTW anyone who thinks a Civic looks better than a Grand Prix needs to have their eyes checked.

I think we can all agree that most hondas are more reliable then most pontiacs, but pontiacs are more roomy and whatnot. And I think civics look way better than grand prixs, but grand prixs aren't hideous compared to many other cars.

Drove 1500 miles in the course of 30 hours and I felt as comfortable at the end as when I got into the car. So why does everyone make this argument?? If we all had to haul lots of people around we would buy minivans lol. And for the looks thing who really cares in the end its all personal preference.

Pontiacs are ok, until you need to replace you IM gaskets. Or start having ABS issues. The tranny in my bonneville started slipping bad at 103k miles, and like 98k miles of that was driven by my dad who was 40+ yrs old. And i was no worse than an average teenager about driving it. Otherwise it ran good, but that tranny is garbage. I have beat the hell out of many hondas with 150k+ miles on them and only had one problem when a D15 got low on oil.

How did your honda get low on oil normal engines don't have consumption issues. I've owned hondas and they all burn oil. 3 motors and 3 sets of CV shafts later I sold my honda I think I'd rather own a 4G63....Um, bad valve seals on a motor with 190k miles on it that was beat to hell. I drove the shit out of it waiting for it to blow and rarely checked the oil.
-
Valve seals did it burn a quart every 500 miles like my motor with just over 100k? or how about those LS rod bolts. I'm not try to start shit but all engines have a downfall. Nothing is perfect, it's true that some maybe better than others but at some point there is a weak link in every piece of machinery.
-
Never seen anyone have a problem with ls rod bolts...unless someone overrevved the shit outa them or something...As for cv shafts...what did u replace them with, I broke an Autozone one in 2 months with a pathetic turd motor, it was the shitty axles they have not the car itself. I havent seen many cars that can take the abuse hondas can...especially a dsm, lol.

My mom drives a 96 dx 5speed 2dr civic and when my family has to crawl into that thing to go anywhere it looks like the circus came to town.............my dad is 6'4" 225lbs and if there is anyway you think he sits with any comfort in that thing in the front, god forbid the back you are nuts
shit i am only 6'2" 155lbs and i cant sit up straight in the back of that thing
She loves her Honda though.................... and for oil consumption, that has 200k on it and it doesnt use a measurable amount at all, D16y8

Exactly what I was going to say. I drove my sister-in-laws mom's car, a newer accord four door, at my brother's wedding and I could barely get the seat to go back far enough for my legs to clear the steering wheel. And that was an accord, arent they supposed to be bigger? As far as situations where you have to fit people in your car, it comes up quite a bit if you have friends. -
Im not gonna claim that civics have a lot of room, they aren't meant to but i could care less. Anyways, if you can't fit in a newer accord, that isn't the car makers fault. I have owned tons of hondas and never had a problem fitting and im 6'3", in fact i usually slide my seat forward a little bit cuz of personal preference and to be closer to the wheel. My dad is 6'6" and he rode in the passenger seat comfortably and was impressed how much room there was.

I dont have chicken legs tho thats the problem, its not my ass or my gut at all but these tree trunks that have to support my fat ass. I could get in and out without too much trouble if the damn steering wheel wasnt so close to the seat. I have yet to come across a car I could not get into and drive its just the hassle of doing so I want to avoid. With something a little bigger like a GP its not a problem at all.

Not my fault, go to the gym and Learn to live a healthier lifestlye.

What? So because Ihave massive legs I have bad genes? I guess I feel I have good genes and as long as I am healthy to hell with you. My cholestorol and blood pessure are both well within what is considered normal, i.e. I'm as healthy as a horse. My lifesyle, while not particularly healthy, is not exactly unhealthy ether. You really have no idea so keep your mouth shut.

WOW for interesting indeed.
yes i am the monty mentioned before that ran 14.59 in my stock GP. 02 4oth anniversary supercharged 3800. not to forget i am a big guy. so drop the weight i am hoping to drop and you can take a tenth off. now with new shoes i might actually take more off. then do it in the fall or spring with cooler temps and it might drop more. MIGHT that is. as i ran that 14.59 in late august at IDR. temps in the mid to hgh 70's.
while it is not fast as some and faster than others i love my car. i wanted a comfy ride for a big guy. i wanted the ability to take passengers and luggage to places. i wanted decent mpg. i get 26ish. i wanted GM. i wanted the creature comforts.do i dislike imports? not at all.
would i like rwd? heck yes
am i gonna trade what i have for one? not anytime soon.
i grew up around RWD muscle cars preferably GM. def not ford.
we each have what we like and that is great. does not mean one is better/worse than the other. it is what we want at the time. heck there are guys that have done both ends of the spectrum.that's what is great about true car nuts. they do not care what it is as long as it is done and there is passion about it. and not ignorance or stupidity. as there are muscle car guys that think there shit doesn't stink. well it does.

Here's my slow carI bought it because i like the look of it, like others have said people have different tastes for different cars or setups. They're pretty damn reliable in my eyes, as i have a beater 98 gtp that has almost 175k miles, and all it does is leak a little oil out of the valve cover gaskets, otherwise everyother gasket is original. Starts up every time and gets decent mileage (29 mpg with tuning ive done, granted im on the hiway and im not hamming on it)
as far as the transmission goes, i've had great luck with both my cars, ive been racing my 02 for the last 4 years, and have visited 14's down to 11's with the stock transmission. It finally started slipping at wide open shift in 1st gear this last year while racing, so its finally getting replaced with a built trans. I beat on my 98 beater daily and it keeps begging for more.
