Looks like a fun project, good to see you getting your hands dirty Jason

I'll probably stop in on tue then,To be honest with you, call up ECS or Garage tuning and pay the $1000 dollars for a plug and play harness. Their finished products are Beautiful, and their turn around is ~2 weeks. Seriouisly. It seems like alot of money, but once you get started there's no turning back.
K, and i do have some questions, I am a complete noob to subies.
Does the stock ECU have options, can you do much of anything with it??
What is the item Colin is talking about? is it just a harness to connect the ECU/engine or some sort of tunable ECU and harness?
Why no standalone of some sort right away??
-
Depending on the year of ECU he is using, there is RomRaider (aka enginuity), ecuflash, etc... available for tuning w/ just an OBDII to USB cable. http://forums.openecu.org/index.php (not that Jason doesn't know about this site, I know he does...others may find it interesting however)

I'm guessing it's just modifying the harness to be able to swap the motor in (stock ecu for that particular engine)... and what Colin was talking about is a pre-made harness, kinda like Rywire makes for Hondas? At least that's how I understand it... I dont really think he'd need a standalone, like swapping a B series into a Civic, if the engine and everything is pretty much stock, there would be no need...

East Coast Swappers is a subaru specific company the basically makes a living importing and swapping subaru motors for JDM components. They're known in the 2.5 RS world for they're "plug and play" wire merges, and how well done/exact fit the merged harnesses are. They do Jason's swap 3 a day pretty much.
Garage tuning does the same thing on the West Coast.
After I stopped in a looked at Jason's resources though, I am confident that he will successfully merge, with little trouble and lots of time.

Oh ok ic.
I didn't know if jason had plans for alot more than stock HP, stock ecu makes sense then.
But if he was going for a decent amount of power with aftermarket stuff a standalone would be a much better choice IMO, easier to wire, new harness, lots of potential, at under 1500
and no stinky MAF.... lol if it has one

The rewiring is done. All that remains is splicing in 13 USDM ECU wires to the JDM ECU plugs, and running 2 power wires from the JDM harness to the USDM main relay. Now it is time to accumulate some parts (clutch, downpipe, etc...) I ordered up some DEFI's today and am hoping to have this thing on the road soon.
Zac,
As stated above, the EJ20g is a stock JDM motor. Although it has more power than USDM WRX's, putting the engine in the car is really no different than what it came from the factory with in JDMland. The PowerFC is really the only tuning option, with the exception of Eprom chips. I plan to make the PowerFC a purchase sometime in the future, however I have many things I need to get before I really start pushing power (suspension is top of the list next...as the RS suspension now is shot...) I will post more information when the motor is going in, and hopefully a few shots with exhaust coming out the tailpipe. :icon_cheers:
