tjamz: Yeah, I've got my school laptop that I'm going to be using. Advantage is when I go to school I'll hook up my computer and then take it out for classes. I've also ordered an Auto Power/Hibernate module, so as soon as the laptop gets power, it turns on, and shuts off when the power is gone.

Ahh...ok, wasn't aware that they had the autopower/hibernate module out. I may have to incorporate something like that in my setup soon as well.

Well, thought I'd supply a little update: I've stopped working on it because my car is in the body shop 😞 Here's hoping I can have it all installed by Sunday for the car show 😄

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd give an update on my system. It should be together by wednesday! Everything has been bolted down, and now I just need to wire everything up.

Wow, it's been a while since I updated haha.

Well, the I.C.E. is working great! I've ran into a few problems, but that will be fixed next year when I have more money. My Alpine 4-Channel amp is constanly overheating, and I've already gone through 3, so I'm pretty sure they're just a shitty amp, and my Touch Screen ribbon broke (stupid, stupid me).

But here is my system, though nothing is final as it will always change

Screen: Lilliput 629GL 7" Touch Screen

                4-Channel: Alpine MRP-F300
                Mono: Kicker 400.1 KX
                Subs: 2x Alpine Type-R's
                Speakers: Stock Monsoon System

750W Black n Decker Power Inverter

DVD/CD Drive mounted underneath my HVAC Controls (damn fiberglass broke today, so its kinda just hanging there)

                GPS (iGuidance 4.0)

Running Road-Runner as a front end with LSX Void 3.3 Skin

                Still To Accomplish

                New Mono Amp
                New 4-Channel Amp
New Speakers (stocker's are starting die out 😞 )
Single USB plug-in in each A-Pillar
USB Hub under the DVD player
iPod adapter -> planning is all done, just need the USB Hub under the DVD player
XM Radio Adapter and a AM/FM Tuner

I won't be at the perfect 10 this year, as I didn't have everything I wanted done in time, but next year I should be there 🙂

I'll want to add up pictures, but I've still got some work to do around the dash (forgot to put clear-coat on the paint around the screen so its all peeling and fading).

I'll put money on it being a poor ground/too thin of ground/too thin of power cable/poor ventilation around the amp/the amp is not 2 ohm stable (I think monsoon systems use 2 ohm speakers still...could be wrong...and I think that the MRP-F300 is 2 ohm stable as well). 3 amps overheating and failing is not normal from Alpine....did you buy them locally? If not, they could be knock-offs if bought from some of the more cheap online sites.

I did some more testing on the amp today. It seems that the problem is because it is not being ventilated properly. I picked up some PC Cooling fans and i'm going to try those out and see if that helps, just to move the air around the amplifier.

I also got a hold of someone to do some custom fibreglass work! So it will look even better than I thought!

are your amps mounted to something solid or a carpeted surface. Mounting to a piece of plywood or sheet metal will help with cooling emmensly.

                      no race car? becuz homeowner...

...........WHAT?!?!?! Ok, hold on a sec. What you mount the amp to will have little to no effect on an amps cooling ability. The amp being open to air and having the heat sink able to breathe (for lack of better terms) will help. Running cooloing fans is the MOST efficient way to keep the amp cool. It can be a challenge to keep it looking clean though.

This is true. I found the best cooling fans to use are the Targus full size fans for laptops. Mount them about a quarter inch below flush then mount the amp right over it. You dont see the fans. Very clean. Unless you are running tiny amps, in which case...get bigger amps.

                          I wanna go fast!

Typically, if the amp shuts down thermally.... It wasn't designed for the loads that its being subjected to. If you are within the spec parameters, the amp itself is probably to blame.

Or it is running too small of gauge of wire....what gauge power cable are you using?
