Don't consent to a search. Maybe you are bringing your books over to a friend's house to study? Now if you are plastered drunk, it's a different story.

On another note, where is everybody this weekend? I took a 5-10 minute cruise around campus and didn't see hardly anyone.

well as far as i remember from crim law class, no they do not have authority to just randomly stop and search your bag as that would be an unreasonable search. unless you consent or you give them reason to believe you are carrying something illegal they dont have authority to search you.

Here's how it works by the book, they call it reasonable suspicion. If they can think of a reason for you to be suspicious i.e. carrying off campus, late in the day or clanking sounds from the bag. They ask to search, now I'm no legal advisor but if you aren't carrying anything to worry about, screw with them and tell them to get a warrant, if you are carrying, use your own judgement.

^^^Exactly, they need probable cause to search your backpack. Just because there's parties and you have a backpack doesn't mean you have alcohol in it. Same goes for vehicles, so if you are underage or over 21 for that fact and have booze in the car make sure it's in the trunk. They can only "legally" look for things that are in plain site.

and remember, dont say "fuck you" but instead say "fuck the police." They can't do anything about it.

actually being it is in a car, and a car is something that can "flee", no warrant is needed. same thing goes for if you are driving like an asshat, and you know a cop i following you, so you park your car in your garage so the cop doesnt see it. a cop can still come in your garage to see if it was your car and give you a ticket. i always thought the car searching thing was the way you described it, but my goverment teacher told me differently my senior year

Thanks for the advice guys. I dont really backpack it. I actually have a camelbak thats holds 70 oz of deliciousness! Do the same rules still apply? I was walking on campus last night and walked right out in front of a police car because he stopped so i could cross the street and he did not seem to mind or not notice the camelbak. I havent had any problems yet but just in case i would like to know what my options are!
