Innovative Tuning visit to North Dakota!

seems pretty damn spendy for a street tune.It is if you only get three people total on the list. At that point, I wouldn't even bring Mike out. if you get 5 per day on both days though, it thins out the travel cost really well, and the tuning cost as well if you're pretty far over the $1,000 mark...down to about $300-$400 per person depending on the car. Some of the people with easier cars to tune will pay less than that. For example, a friend's motor-swapped CRX is only $170 per tune, plus his share of the travel costs.

I do not have any cars in need of tuning at the moment. However, I hope you thought about the fact that we do live in ND. What happens when we get snow when your suppose to be road tuning?
I dunno, man, we find a way to deal with it? I really wish people would stop talking about snow, the weather can hear you, and it needs to STOP.
I would try to look at moving the tuning somewhere that had a little bit better weather, but there's only so much you can do. You run the same chance in the middle of June with a week of heavy rain.

We split his travel expenses plus actually tuning charges?

I dont see the point of bringing someone in from across the country for a street tune is and possibly paying extra $$ when there is plenty of competant tuners down in the Mnpls area that can do the job.The same reason Nathan Cicio brought Doug from TopSpeed up here last year. Because tuners in the Minneapolis area are competent. They're not GOOD, they're just competent. When you start talking about places like AMR, Innovative Tuning, and TopSpeed, you're talking about nationally recognized names that go see hundreds of different builds and do tunes for them every year. Innovative Performance was one of 5 shops that had the ProTUNER software before it was officially released. I'm not knocking on DB Performance, MAP, or any of the other Minneapolis area tuners....I'm just saying that they don't have the same level of experience that people like Mike and Doug have. That's why people pay the money.
And some of us can't start our cars on our new builds without a tuner present, so it's bring the tuner here, or trailer the car to Minneapolis anyway.
I'm not saying it's for everyone, and if it's not your preference, there's nothing wrong with that. But I had my stage 2 07 STi tuned by Doug last year and was VERY happy with the results, and I know a number of other people whose experience says that it's worth it.

Just to elaborate on what I mean...
I have been tuned by Shane at DB Performance, also. He did two tunes for my current STi in 2008, one methanol and one non-meth. I am not unhappy with his performance as a tuner...the car ran strong, and I think WOULD have been reliable if I hadn't been lied to by the previous owner about the engine internals. If you want to know an unfriendly way to find out that a car still has stock rods and pistons, just ask me.

I've spent some time talking to Jordan from MAP and Shane at DB about this new build, too. Jordan isn't a ProTUNER, and so for me, he's out. Shane's good, and if I can't get the people together to make it worthwhile for Innovative Tuning to come down here, I'll go to Shane. Shane never bothered to find out those extra small details about my build and correct me when I made mistakes. In just talking to Mike over the past few days after my engine builder recommended him, I have learned a ton and changed some things about my build that I think would have left me extremely unhappy by severely limiting the power output. Shane just took my word for the parts I had on my car and never suggested better ways to get the most out of what I was trying to do. I like him, he's a good tuner and a good guy, I just think Mike would pay a little more attention to what I as a driver and racer would want out of the car, instead of just getting the job done.

The problem here is your probably the only one w/ an "elaborate" setup that is even going to need this sort of service. Idk if your familiar w/ Fargo or not but your more then likely not going to find the crowd you seem to be seeking for this service as most setups anyone does around here are simple/basic and they try cut every corner possible to save a buck.
Just out of curiousity whats involved in your build and expected power levels to be obtained?

This guys rates are pretty ridiculous. 1000 bucks just to come here for a day? after a few hundo for plane tick, stick him in a hotel room for a night, that's what, 5-600 bucks there...400 just to be here+the actual tuning rates?

What made you guys come upon the $1000? Just curious.

Just curious.Mike quoted the travel cost to me as gas, parking, airline ticket, hotel, and time of travel. He'd be here for two days. I don't know what Cicio paid to have Doug from TopSpeed come up, but plane tickets can't be cheap...especially when we're talking about him buying his ticket possibly a week in advance. And his tuning rates are pretty nice in that, if you exceed $1,000 for the day, he charges that out to the whole group and splits it up accordingly rather than making them pay per tune.

This isn't just for the Fargo area. I have four people on board right now, and two of them would be coming from Bismarck, with another Bismarck guy interested. I have another Subie with a pretty elaborate set-up that wants two tunes done...one pump gas, one E85. That's 5 tunes for one day right now, and a 4-way split on travel cost. The more people we get on, the better it will be for everyone.
As far as what's involved in my build, I'm looking at doing something similar to my IWSTI member journal on FargoStreet...if I do, I'll let you know.

lol time of travel, he wanted to come here

Time of Travel = Effort Money. Who is this guy, Torbs?
He is going to book his plane ticket a week in advanced? Jesus...when did he decided he was going to come here? Panning ahead would have cut the price in half. Thus, more people would be interested in a still expensive street tune.

I have a 03 Evo with some bolt on's I thought about this street tune for about two secs. I'd Rather go down to Shane @ DB to tune my 9sec talon and 500 hp stock ecu EVO.. Plus its always nice to see a dyno graph for braging rights...
So this guy will do 3rd/4th/5th gear pulls down the interstate? or where does he street tune?

He didn't even really KNOW about this until my engine builder got in touch with him and mentioned I was looking for a way to get my car from Bismarck to DB Performance without trailering it. Then he made the offer. So...yeah, about a week ago.

This kind of screamed "BRAG ALERT" just a little bit. No offense, mate.
I imagine that's how he'll do his tuning. The only time I've been present during street tuning is when Doug from TopSpeed came up here. And he pretty much did that, yeah.
