Can I really get a ticket for this?
-
about an hour ago, i got into this little accident. the girl ahead of me slowed down to turn and i couldn't stop and i tried turning into the snowbank but i couldnt and i scraped the side of her back bumper barley. there is no marks on my car and she had a little white scrape. so the cops shouldnt of even been called but whatever. anyway i was nice to the cop, i apologized to the girl and the cop gave me a ticket for "failure to have a vehicle under control"!! when he gave it to me i said "you cant be serious, its icy as hell" and he said its icy everywhere. the tickets for $60 and im fucking pissed!!! how can i get a ticket for ice??? i wasnt speeding and i dont think he thought i was and i was driving my winter car which is a topaz so he couldnt of thought i was showing off or whatever. this is defintley goin to fuckin court but i dont know who to say besides that it was icy!! FUCK!!

thats pretty lame man. when they plowed the roads the other day they went down right to the ice and made it even more slippery than it would have been if they wouldve left an inch or so of snow on top. i dont know much about the laws, but that sounds like bullshit to me.

Police are supposed to be alerted of any accident, and yes, you are at fault. No matter what the conditions are, a "rear-end" accident is the fault of the driver in the rear. That driver controls the distance between the cars and is responsible for leaving enough space to stop without causing an accident.

I got a ticket like that last winter. They are stupid but when I went to court I still had to pay. So court was a waste of time and money.. good luck

i remember reading theres supposed to be a certain amount of damage to call the police but i didn't have a problem with it. and i know i'm 100% at fault, my only problem is getting this ticket like there was something i could do. i thought i gave myself more than enough time to stop but it jus wouldnt stop.and thanks to the people who said good luck, i know i'll need it to even have a chance in court here

Driving under the speed limit means nothing as the speed limit is there for IDEAL conditions and is the legal maximum speed you should drive under perfect conditions. He could have also written you a ticket for driving too fast for road conditions. Sorry man, but you are screwed on this one.

You were following to closely, and not prepared. Learn how to drive, or get better brakes and ABS.

The ticket is legit..my siter got the same thing. The only way she got out of it was because the cop made 12 IM NOT SHITTING YOU 12 mistakes on the police report and was found incompetant. Good luck with fighting the ticket though.

i dont think knowing how to drive is the problem, thats the only accident i ever had. and i gave myself enough time to stop i thought, it just happened. not bad driving, not following too closley it just happened and it was my fault. the ticket still isn't justified in my opinion but oh well, im sure the cop feels better about himself or something. -
In all honesty you have a snowballs chance in hell in trying to overturn the ticket.

cops should only be called if the vehicular damage is 300$ dollars or more and if property damage is 1000$ or more. I have had extensive dealings with this.AHHH Camaro's and Light Poles....

Yeah, they can issue that ticket to you, I've gotten the same thing. BUT, under the circumstances there's a good chance of you getting it dropped in court... atleast reduced.
FYI... they gave it to me for not being in my lane on a right hand turn. Bullshit.

Thats prolly cause it was his dads construction companies truck and didnt care. But that helps me alot, no ticket for running a red, and i didnt go through insurance for it.

get better brakes and ABS.ABS DOES NOT MAKE YOU STOP FASTER ON ICE. ABS does however allow you to steer while on ice. If you want to stop faster you need to pump the brakes, I know your owners manual tells you not to, but trust me on this one. I pull my ABS fuse every winter (actually, I just have a toggle switch to cut power to my ABS) for this very reason, I did some testing to prove to myself that my ABS is junk...I stopped on average 25' sooner w/o abs using my foot to modulate the brakes than abs did.

Just pay the ticket and forget about it.... a guy at work backed his work van into another car did zero dmg but had to call the cops because its company policy. The cop wrote him a ticket for Improper Backing and it cost him $30.
The pigs will try and squeeze money out of you any way they can.

thats why i love manual brake cars like mine there great u actually stop faster but depends on how well u can drive to contorl it -
The way the court explained it to us is this...
cops can issue the ticked for not having your vehicle under control "AT THE OFFICER'S DISCRETION." Translation: We can fuck you if we want to. How do you like the state of North Dakota now?
