Funny think about Car Craft is that it is in the cities, not Fargo. You are not figuring in the 7 hours of drive time round trip as well as the cost of fuel, lodging, food, etc. Comparing Car Craft to P10 is silly.

Drunkest ones still able to stand by the time the show is supposed to start :drunken_smilie:

Actually, TM selects the judges based on their own criteria. Usually (I'm assuming) it is people who are familiar with car shows and have been attending/showing for a number of years and those who they feel are least likely to show any form of bias.

The only negative that I think worth mentioning was when the awards were given out, many of the people were given awards without knowing what car was theirs. I knew only about 1/3 of the people/cars competing so I had a hard time following what car they were giving an award to/for.

That was a judge failure. I get handed the award sheet at 10:15pm, and it had car numbers and names. OOPS! I went through as many of them as I could and wrote down car info, but I didn't have enough time to get everyone's car info down. I agree that always sucks when a car wins, and many don't know who the winner was. That was an error that we normally don't encounter!

Thanks to everyone for the support and help. There are a lot of things that need to be in place to make the show go off, and it isn't something I, nor anyone could do single handed. So thanks to everyone that helped from big to small.

No need to apologize Jason. I figured you were well aware of the issue. It was still a great show nonetheless.

I know that one of the judges was the guy from Canada that owns the black and red widebody G35. The last couple years he has taken home the Best Of Show awards amongst other classes best.

Would there be an easy way to put a pic up of each car as you announce the awards? That would be really cool because then you know exactly what car it was.

Tintmasters, I want to thank you for the opportunity to be a judge. Although it was a lot of work ,I wouldnt hesitate to do it again.

On behalf of the judges, we appologize for awards. Just so you know, we had a time contraint of 2 min per car. so there were some administrative details that we didnt even think of. It is alot harder than you realize and anyone who has ever judged would agree. The owner of the widebody G35 had alot of insight and gave us two some great advice

as far as the outcomes of the awards, 95% of the awards were unanimous amongst all 3 judges. There were some categories that were very close but even under the time contraint we did not want to rush our decisions.

I think it was a great show.

The 8hour(one way) drive up was well worth it to come up for the weekend.

I loved the K swap row and the sick wire tucks, along with all the other very nice and well built cars.

Models looked good, bikini contest was ok. Good looking girls, they just didnt seem to have the energy to get the crowd going, etc.

The group of us that came up from here had a fun time cruising around also. I don't know many of the people that we were cruising with besides Freitag, but even though I have a beat up civic hatch, everyone was saying it was sweet that I was rockin' a D in it. Still trying to figure out why. :icon_scratch:

Thanks to TM for putting on the show. I know I will be back up next year, probably with a few more people again.

Thought there was a lot of sweet cars at the show this year, personally liked the NSX and the blue FD a lot and the Blue Sti with the white Volks probably 3 of my favorites at the show. Congrats to all the winners and thanks TM for another awesome show.

As a general rule of thumb (speaking broadly about a variety of different shows I've judged, including past P10's), there are 7 main areas to concentrate on (and a number of little things within each category...I'll try and list the bulk of them):

Exterior:
[]Paint condition (Easiest way to ruin a show car is with crappy paint)
[
]Factory Paint vs. Custom Paint (You don't NEED custom paint, but a good custom job in good condition will score better than factory 9/10 times)
[]Graphics (can help or hurt you depending on how well they are pulled off)
[
]Body Kit/Aero Kit (Not all are created the same, better kits score better points)

Custom Modifications (1 off stuff done tastefully)
Interior:
[]Again custom is king and rarity of components scores points
[
]Seats & Pedals are easy points, as is a harness bar. Re-covered interior parts get special attention as well
[]Spray painting your dash probably won't help you.
[
]Everything inside the car should flow, including your gauge clusters...nothing should look out of place
Suspension & Wheels:
[]Good quality components outscore lower quality ones, however, sometimes a person with a full set of Megan Racing suspension components (Sway bars, strut bars, coilovers, braces, etc...) will outscore the guy with just a set of Tein Basics. Also being damage free helps.
[
]Wheel gap is ugly, but sometimes too much negative camber can make the car look goofy as well...so balance is key there.
[]CLEANLINESS. For the love of God, clean your wheels and wheel wells. We check for stuff like that.
[
]Bring pictures of the stuff installed or bring a mirror to help me see it. Preferably both.
ICE:
[]Integration is key. A well designed system that looks like it belongs will usually get a higher score from me than the "bling bling look at me" setup.
[
]Good fitment is also desired. The system should be designed in such a manner that it looks like it is molded to the car OR is designed to snap into place.

Better components score higher points. IOW, Diamond/JL/Zapco/MTX > Jensen/Audiobahn/Dual/Pyle
Engine & Performance:
[]Modifications get you points. Ghetto installs lose you points. Dirt costs you points.

Also, don't be afraid to talk with judges after the show to see what they think you can improve on. Most will gladly point out a few things they see as needing improvement....also remember that judging is subjective and not objective. What appeals to one may appall another. Also, judges are human and make mistakes.

This is a fact, and I should probably make myself more clear about the lack of info with the trophies (Aaron, take no direct blame). As this show gets bigger and bigger, judging becomes harder and harder...Not only because of the quantity of cars, but also the quality. It makes it much more difficult to look at 2 kswapped/tucked/jdm civics and say 'this guy is better than the other'. It is also difficult because with 160 cars, and 4.5 hours to judge, that leaves ~90 seconds per car (hope to God the judge doesn't have to go to the bathroom/eat/rest/sneeze). The judges this year had their work cut out for them, and as I was sitting with them in the deliberation room, I realized the error in ME telling THEM to put cars down with the names. This was the first year that I think 99% of the trophies went to the proper winners.

To get a slideshow with every car organized in that small time frame would be impossible. We didn't have the winners figured out until 10:15pm, and that was with the judges running to double check a few thoughts on the cars at the last minute. We could make the show longer, but we have had feedback from past years that felt it drug on for too long (6 hours seems to be about right).

The next P10 show, I will make sure I give more information to go along with the trophies and winners vehicles.

Have them submit 10 photos when they register so the judges have some idea what the cars strong/weak points are maybe?
