belt squeal?
-
My car has developed a slight belt squeal it seems...i was poking around and i tightened both the power steering and the alternator. Im about 95% positive its something with the power steering because when i crank the wheel back and forth (lock to lock) the squealing goes away. Im hoping its something as simple as a bad belt or something...but could it be worse? I looked under the wheel well at the crank pulley and you can kinda tell the source of the squealing is coming from there. Any thoughts? Im praying its not a bad bearing or something

if your steering wheel moves easily its not the fluid..and probably not the belt..unless its just a little loose....not really sure.

well your in luck its supposed to be like 45! haha

cross your fingers, squeeze your nuts, and pray the cups on your rack arnt shot....

listen to what he's saying here.... if you turn the wheel from lock to lock it goes away... if it was something crank/thurst bearing related, that would have no effect on the noise.... Tom is the belt loose, or does it feel tight? Just replace that, and get it tightened tomorrow, and see where that puts you.

it makes a grinding noise at idle and goes away when you turn the wheel?

i just say if its the ps, just get ride of it!

Well here is what i did this weekend to it....first of all i checked the actual fluid and its supposed to be dexron III auto tranny fluid....the fluid was brown, sooo that i changed that out...and i tightened the belt but its still squealing...next plan of action is to just spray some wd40 on the crank pulley and pray for the best.....if that doesnt work then i might start thinking bearing but im not going to get ahead of myself just yet...
